the <!–more–> tag only affects text…pictures are still excluded from the frontpage.
I also didn’t see anything of help in the codex.
EDIT: all I want is something like this: http://winterblink.com. His images display the same way on the front page and in the posts
mercime- I don’t want a thumbnail, I just want the picture like it would normally show in the post. what are the custom fields to do that?

the error message is:

ftp works fine in other clients, so the ftp is fine.
