 * I’m wondering if I’m not experiencing a similar error. On my website, I have 
   the 404 to start plugin activated. Up to recently, all false URL were trapped
   properly. It still works, but not when a user tries to access wp-admin or wp-
   login. In both cases the user gets a 404 page, even though 404 to start is up
   and running. Could it be because of the Hide Backend feature?
