 * Alex,
 * I think many people are asking for native Bit.ly support. Is this something we
   can expect in the future? I’m hopeful Social will handle this instead of yet
   another plugin and some coding – which I consider no different than the hacks
   presented above.
 * Hopefully bit.ly support will be re-introduced in a future version.

 * I’m going to take a stab (guess) at this and say your file permissions on your
   server might not be correct. Check to see what they ought to be (644??) and try
   again. Its s total guess but when you see permission issues its usually file
   permissions.

 * I think you’re going to need to describe the issues in greater detail, Frioman.
   What’s the website’s URL? Do you time out when resolving the DNS name? Can you
   access the SQL database using your hosts database admin tool? Any specific errors
   given by the browser or just a blank page?
 * The more info the better. You can’t provide too much details here.
 * You can certainly TRY to manually install WP 2.8. Make sure you’re themes aren’t
   messing things up either. I know that some themes weren’t 2.7.1 compatible so
   if you’re going from a 2.7 to 2.8 (skipping 2.7.1) you might not have encountered
   the issues until now.
 * if all else fails, you can downgrade to 2.7 and see if that helps.
 * Again, more details.

 * There are a few reports of AJAX functions not working correctly in WP 2.8. This
   could be the issue. Its affecting Tags, Categories, (possibly) uploads. it could
   also cause the visual editor to go crazy (I haven’t tested that, though since
   I use the HTML editor).

 * Yeah… use your FTP software to browse your hosted server. You can delete the
   plugins from the plugin directory. I’ll assume you’re using a GUI tool and not
   a command line FTP tool… if that’s the case, you should be able to right click
   on each directory and delete them.

 * Yeah… I have the same issue. I’m really thinking its a WP 2.8 issue. I’m running
   Leopard, using Safari 4 (Final) with the WebKit nightly builds and Firefox 3.0.8.
   It does the same thing in Ubuntu, though.
 * When I try to add a category or tag and click on either box for the tag name,
   slug, or description, the field disappears (so I can’t enter any text) and it
   looks as if the blank field appears on the right side (as if I saved the tag/
   category). Its really odd.
 * Oh well. Its not a big deal for me so far…
 * Oh… BTW… in the ‘Add new Post’ section, I can add tags or categories… its only
   in the specific Tag & Category sections with the AJAX that have problems.

 * Try disabling your plugins and themes. I think you can download them from your
   FTP program and remove them from your remote host. By creating a local backup,
   you can save the files but WP will automatically disable them… its like starting
   from scratch.
 * See if that helps. Make sure any special .htaccess file data isn’t getting in
   the way either.

 * I mentioned this in another forum with K2 issues but there were changes made
   to the JQuery libraries which broke the theme. People are complaining of the
   same things you are. For K2, they upgraded the theme to the latest nightly build.
 * There probably isn’t a need for you to restore your entire site; just the WordPress
   code itself. Or… just have the theme author fix the JScript.

 * I think there were changes to the JQuery libraries and its what caused K2 to
   go haywire. I read somewhere that someone downloaded the latest nightly build
   of K2 and the pages drew normally.
 * I’m going to try that first before downgrading. My host has versions so its easy
   for me to roll back the changes. See if your hosts allow for that.
