 * Thanks for the info, what a pain its been.
 * I just “cleaned” my site and it is now backup and fully operational.
 * Had to first backup and then delete the mySQL DB
 * I then deleted the files then reinstalled the latest version of WordPress and
   re-uploaded a copy of my custom theme.
 * Seems to be fine now.
