 * Thank you SO MUCH! Your suggestion worked as advertised.
 * Best of all, it forced me to figure out how to access the WordPress files on
   my hosting site — which I’d never done before. I’m learning… 😎
 * Again, a million thanks.

 * Dear Mr. Smartcat: Thanks again for your interest. You’re right; the problem
   was a WordPress issue, not related to your theme.
 * All the best, 😎

 * RESOLUTION: My wizard nephew took a look and determined that one of the Javascript
   libraries was broken. He installed a plugin to use the Google ajax libraries,
   and it works fine now.
 * What happens to people who don’t have a wizard nephew?

 * Thank you for your response, but the problem is that Screen Options doesn’t function
   in Edit Page mode. Neither does Help.
 * Both worked previously. The only thing that seems to be different is that in
   Screen Options I chose “one column” instead of the default “two columns.” (I
   did that thinking it might get rid of the Archive and Meta areas on the right
   of the pages; obviously, I was wrong about that.) After choosing “one column,”
   neither Screen Options nor Help display when selected.
 * When I hover over the Screen Options and Help buttons, I get the correct URL
   on the bottom left of the pages. My guess is that there is something about the
   one-column layout that doesn’t permit them to be displayed. That’s just a guess
   though. But since I can’t access Screen Options, I can’t reset Pages to two-column.
 * Again most sincere thanks for your kind response. Any further suggestions will
   be greatly appreciated.

 * PS: This problem seems to have developed after in chose “one column” instead
   of the default “two column” in the Screen Options area (I misunderstood the function
   of the column option). I haven’t found a way to revert to the default two columns.
   Does anyone know how to do that?
 * Many thanks.

 * Thank you artisco for the tip about hiding “meta” and “archive.” They were driving
   me crazy, but your solution worked great. Oh, and like teresam, I found I didn’t
   have to put any content in “text.”
 * Again, a million thanks.

 * I, too, am new at this, so this is a case of the blind leading the blind. That
   said, I’ve been able to get my homepage looking something like the sample page—
   though, to me, the process seems counterintuitive.
 * Under Appearance > Customize > Static Front Page, I chose the “A static page,”
   option because that’s what I want for the home page. Then a “Front page” dropdown
   menu appeared, but the home page wasn’t listed as an option. I’d only created
   one other page (About), and that’s all that was displayed on the drop down menu.
   And NOTHING I tried to do on the home page was visible — slider, CTAs, etc.
 * Finally, for lack of a better idea, I chose the “Front page displays > Your latest
   posts” option. I have no idea why, but then the home page suddenly began looking
   the way I wanted it to — slider and CTAs miraculously appeared. I believe my
   mistake was in thinking “Front Page” and “Home Page” are the same thing. I guess
   they’re not. As I said, seems counterintuitive to me, but it’s working. Maybe
   it will work for you. Good luck.
