 * As a follow up on this…I created the site on Divi and /project/ is the slug created
   when using their ‘projects’ custom post type.
 * Now we have converted back, but old links still contain the slug ‘project’.
 * How do I redirect or fix this so that the old links are redirected to the new
   link without the slug?
 * Am I making sense?

 * Hi Robin,
    I sent an email with screenshots to the email address on your website.

 * So I tried this:
    Went to settings>Permalinks and saved to Default.
 * Then I edited the .htaccess and deleted the “extra”
 *     ```
       # BEGIN WordPress
       # END WordPress
       ```
 * Uploaded to directory and overwrote the existing .htaccess file. Then went back
   to Settings>Permalinks and clicked on the “pretty” permalink structure.
 * I looked at the .htaccess file again and the “double” code appeared again.
 * I tempted to repeat the above process, but deleting .htaccess after saving to
   default permalinks.
 * Would that screw up the website?
 * So can I delete the extraneous code and save the file without doing any harm?
 * wow. thanks so much. I just have to copy over wp-content to the root? Shouldn’t
   I copy over everything?
 * Am I supposed to completely empty the root folder before putting new files in?
 * okay…now I’m getting a little (okay, a lot) nervous. Can someone review my plan
   of action below and let me know that it’s correct?
 * My situation:
    My redesigned site (new) is in a subdirectory (folder) of the
   primary domain name. (eg. [http://www.primary.com/newsite](http://www.primary.com/newsite)).
 * The site to be replaced (old) is in a subdomain of the primary domain name (shared
   hosting on same server). This is the root directory. (eg [http://www.rootsite.com](http://www.rootsite.com))
 * My strategy:
    1 – back up “old” WP files and database. This is the existing site
   on the root directory. 2 – Log into newsite and change WordPress and Site address
   to new location which should reflect the root directory. 3 – Move WP core files
   to the new location via FTP. 4 – done???
 * I guess I’m not sure what to do with the existing site. Can I simply move the
   files to a subdomain labeled Archives?
 * You don’t need a plugin, but you can give your site admin the feed URL by category:
 * [http://yourwebsitename.com/category/your_category_name/feed/](http://yourwebsitename.com/category/your_category_name/feed/)
 * So what should I do with the old WP site? Archive it? And should I do that first
   before redirecting?
 * Thanks WPyogi!
 * Ok, the existing/current WordPress site (SSM.com) is in a subdirectory of the
   root directory.
 * I am redesigning in a newly created subdirectory of SSM.com (SSM/newSSM.com).
 * Do I do the same thing in this case?
 * Thanks Jackie!
 * This is an especially large site with high traffic so just wanted to double-check.
 * Also, what’s the best way to redirect the URL once the new website is done? Should
   I just redirect the URL in Settings? I don’t want to break any existing links.
   I haven’t done this is a while…
 * Thanks!
 * I’ve been making the edits thru Dreamweaver (in remote view). Just to double-
   check, I went into the the webhost’s file manager via cPanel and checked the
   file and it was unchanged. I edited the file via cPanel and it worked. Thanks
   for your quick response!
 * I did that and rechecked the index.php file, but i still get the same error message.
   Anything else that i’m missing?
