 * Unfortunately the hosting company came up with the same reply as earlier: make
   the 301 changes to the htaccess file if you want to redirect the old https links

 * Thanks for your reply and pointing me in the right direction ! I’ve looked it
   up on the website of my host and it says free SSL when you have web-hosting +
   domain-name from them.
 * Because we only kept the domain-name for the first site and stopped the web-hosting
   i assume SSL will not be included with that. But I’ll send them a mail asking
   what is possible

 * I am on shared hosting so what i read in the hosting company reply is that they
   advice you to have wordpress and plugins updated. No need to disable that setting
   but there’s always “a certain security risk”.
 * Thanks for your time & replies David. I will continue to regular backup with
   Updraftplus. Just as good habit and in case the security risk of popen() ever
   strikes.

 * I passed David’s message on and received a reply from the hosting company which
   says what DNutbourne already said:
 * _The ‘popen’ function can be a security risk if used incorrectly. However, if
   your site/server security is solid, then this risk should be minimal._
 * That’s all

 * Ok thank you both for explaining. I have forwarded your text to the hosting company
   and will get back here when i hear from them.

 * David,
 * PHP event: code E_WARNING: popen() has been disabled for security reasons (line
   1575, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/class-updraftplus.php)
 * Is indeed the last line in the log.
 * After your hint of the source of the problem I found this in the control panel
   of the hosting company:
 * ” A few php functions are disabled by default for security reasons. We advice
   only to enable and use these functions when necessary: exec, passthru, shell_exec,
   system, proc_open, popen”
 * After turning this option on the backup the error message disappeared and the
   backup started again.
 * Strange as i hadn’t changed settings in the control panel or touched that button.
 * How big is the risk when you leave those functions enabled? Or should i only
   enable it every time i want to make a backup?

   to go back to and it will download the old version

 * 1.53:
    works fine in Chrome and Safari. in Firefox and IE: not opening the lightbox
   but opening linkpages disabled all addons in FF and started in safemode but no
   change in behaviour

 * Stopped working in 1.52 in Firefox and Chrome. Tried various of the options but
   none showed any of the lightboxes. Went back to previous version that is working
   fine

 * ok thanks for the reply !
 * So like last time the red arrow kept turning and in the end i stopped the update,
   deactivated responsive lightbox and updated the plugin within 15sec. Activated
   it again and that was all …
 * Any suggestions what to check or what to do if it keeps behaving like this?

 * It kept spinning last time there was an update.
    Then i deactivated the plugin
   and click on update and it was ready within 5 seconds..
