 * I checked your site and noticed that your thumbnails are supposed to be in the
   folder <img src=”/home/deetheb1/public_html/markwilhelm.ca/wp-content/uploads/
   et_temp/iaao-website-939447_184x184.png”
 * I would first check to see if the folder still exists then, I would check your
   database… I noticed in the past when I used the built-in “Use as Featured Image”
   instead of using a custom field “Thumbnail” for example, during upgrades, the
   thumbnails are no longer associated with the post in the database…
 * The other thing you might want to check is to see if the above folder has 777
   privileges… if not, try setting the folder to 777 and see if they reappear…
 * Check your TimThumb Script as well…

 * No replies simply because this problem has existed since day one… it is a coding
   issue….
 * For one reason or another, you must set write permissions on the wp-content folder
   along with the uploads folder (something never done before)
 * Next, you must then go and change permissions on your themes and plugins folders
   so the world as wp would know it, cannot write to those folders…
 * Regarding the theme folder, make certain that if your theme is using a cache (
   timthumbnailing) that you make that folder within the specific theme folder 777
 * That should do it… you may find that, you will need to go in and play around
   with the settings to IE 9.0 (or IE all together) to get the “Drag and Drop” feature
   to work as, it is not recognized as a trust script (java of some flavor) causing
   the “Drag and Drop” not to appear at all unless using something less secure e.
   g. Firefox or Chrome which are a lot “looser” with their scripting actions/permissions….
 * After all of that, I simply switched back to 3.2.1 for, simply upgrading to have
   a special “drag and Drop” feature for images/uploads to me was simply not worth
   risking the security changes…
 * I guess to wrap it up, as with any WP release, wait until the next series of
   updates comes out and wait to see which was is the one to use…
 * Good Luck, Happy Holidays

 * [@rtk](https://wordpress.org/support/users/rtk/) – are you running Windows Server
   2008 R2, or just the Web Server version of 2008?
 * I operate a Windows 2008 R2 dedicated and I utilize remote desktop not, C-Panel…
 * My issue is, 3.2.1 rund just fine with the recommended security settings and
   as you, am very hesitant to stray for the sake of making a newer version of WP
   operational at this time..

 * Yes, the point being is, changing permissions on just uploads will not work…
   permissions to wp-content need to be modified as well… this has never been the
   case in past versions of WordPress

 * Try restarting your php… it is dependent on what type of server you are using
   as to the exact methods however, if everything is failing as described, a php
   restart should resolve 90 percent of your problems… now for the other 10 percent,
   join the club there are many trying to get this figured out at this time…

 * The whole issue needs to bee closely looked at as, you are not the only one having
   these issues…. if you are a trusting soul, you can give write permissions to
   your wp-content folder/directory the same as the uploads folder…
 * It would be a good idea for you to remove write privileges on your theme and
   plugins folders as, you don’t want anyone messing with either of those two (theme
   or plugins that is)…
 * Have you attempted to upload using IE 9 yet? If so, please let me know if you
   are actually seeing the “Drag and Drop” feature as, I am not seeing that using
   IE 9, 8, or 7. I only see the drop and drag while using Chrome… this is definitely
   a java/php issue to which, many have not narrowed it down yet…
 * Good luck!
