 * Hi, I see that you registered to this site, just to make this review on the same
   day.
 * For your issue, bbPress should work fine with other custom post types that you
   may have created.
 * Do you mind and walking me through the issue you are getting so I can reproduce
   it?
 * If it is custom post types created in a theme link me to the theme, or if it
is a plugin link me to the plugin, or paste the custom code you may be using
in this topic so that I could see if there is an issue.
 * If you need any further with anything else, please create a topic on [https://bbpress.org/forums/](https://bbpress.org/forums/)

 * > bbpress notifications and emails do not work.
 * They do work, it just some issues with using BCC on some hosts that have a limit
of about 500 emails to be sent.
 * > When you go to support they refer you to a third party and do not support.
 * Since I think you are referencing the same topic that I linked to above. A regular
participant user said that they recommended asking help from a mod, who was a
moderator before I was on the support forums.
 * And the user also shared the advice given from the moderator they contacted privately,
their recommendation of using an smtp sending service is fine to use if you are
sending a high amount of subscription emails a day.
 * > and do not support
 * I helped on numerous topics just like the one you are referencing, I even tried
to help a user on the topic to try to pinpoint the issue, but they did not reply
back to help solve the issue.

 * A forum description should show up where you would see the forum in a list like
in the forum index, or in another forum if you have a hierarchy of forums.
 * You can switch to a default WordPress theme to see if possibly your theme author
has added custom bbPress templates and left out the forum description code.
 * If you encounter any other issues make sure to go to [https://bbpress.org/forums/](https://bbpress.org/forums/),
login with your WordPress credentials, then create a topic in one of the forums.

 * > when people start calling it a “forum” one immediately compares it to dedicated“
   > forum” scripts. and that’s when things become less shiny
 * I mean each of the forum software solutions are different in their own ways,
of course bbPress is not the all in one solution like some, but it doesn’t need
to be. There may be some drawbacks to installing plugins for bbPress, but most
of the functionality some users may want are in the plugin you did mention.
 * > you need a few other plugins for common things like private messaging and user
   > avatar (that’s when buddypress comes in to the rescue), role management, media
   > attachment, notifications or social login.
   > And each one has a learning curve,
   > and sometimes don’t play along with each other.
 * BuddyPress allows the ability for private messaging, user avatar upload, media
attachments are possible with the new Attachments API and through the BuddyPress
Forum Editor plugin, and notifications although bbPress has subscriptions.
 * Within BuddyPress you should be able to just active a component just by just
selecting a checkbox in the plugins settings.
 * Learning how to use each of the components should seem natural and easy to learn
how to do things. One might say, “How do I change my profile photo”, and you
should naturally just go to your profile and look for something that might say
Change Profile Photo. Anything that you may be really unsure how something works
or how to do something specific you can always contact the support team.
 * Role management may be in bbPress, I guess it really depending on what you talking
about. You are able to change users roles in the Users section. Allowing users
to have custom capabilities may need a plugin like bbPress Capabilities, which
is created by the lead developer of bbPress. Creating custom roles is possible,
   not really to difficult too.
 * I know Social Login is important for some users and there are plenty of plugins
free/paid that can add this. It may be a learning curve on this also, but it
is most likely just inputting keys and redirect urls.
 * > Simple things like bulk moving topics or creating default “catchall” forum
   > don’t exist
 * You are right, you cannot bulk move multiple topics as of now, it may be simple
to do though to the topics list in Topics > All Topics bulk selecting then editing
then just changing the Parent Forum. I will need to suggest that to the devs
later, it might of crossed their minds.
 * I am not sure what exactly you are talking about when you say a Catchall forum.
I have an idea, but I want to make sure.
 * > support is not responsive, there are a lot of unanswered questions and sometimes
   > takes ages to get a reply.
 * I mean I get most of the topics in the past few months since I became a moderator.
I cannot speak for the past few years though, but I tried to help a lot the best
I can in the past year. I think if you go past a day in the support forums and
back most of the last posters were possibly me, and the topics may be mostly
resolved (I don’t mark them all resolved, but they are resolved). I might need
a break here and there though, but who doesn’t need one sometimes.
 * If you needed help you should have created a topic on bbpress.org, I will reply
to you if you need any help setting up bbPress.
 * > if you just need the basics or are willing to spend time configuring, tuning
   > and coding, then bbpress is quite OK.
 * You probably do not need to spend most of your time configuring things. What
did you have trouble with in bbPress? It is usually quite easy when you get the
hang of how everything is set up.
 * > if you need some additional features or are not a geek in WP API (no pun intended),
   > maybe you’ll be better off with another solution
 * I feel like some users may not know what plugins they could install, or what
are the best plugins for this, this, and this. If you need help finding something,
I can probably help you find a plugin.
 * If you are trying to custom develop something for bbPress, I can somewhat help
you here, but it depends on what it is.

 * Since you put this into a question, yes, they are compatible plugins. bbPress
has integrations to be able to have Group Forums when BuddyPress is also installed.

 * > I’m not trying to make the team to work like others, but I want to know is
   > the team actually working?
 * Of course they are. Some important tickets may take awhile, because some of the
improvements needed are very complex to achieve and insert into the plugin. There
are also some areas where they see improvements and they have ideas but have
to find a way where it doesn’t break backwards compatibility.
 * Some tickets that I see have taken awhile, but now are completed, may have set
new possibilities for such features to be implemented by core devs or for plugin
authors to take advantage of. Some of the features that you have listed could
   take advantage of such ticket.
 * **(custom) roles and permissions**
 * This is definitely possible already, to only change permissions for only specific
users, use the bbPress advanced capabilities plugin.
 * [https://codex.bbpress.org/custom-capabilities/](https://codex.bbpress.org/custom-capabilities/)
 * **warning system**
 * This is probably possible to create in a plugin. I will take a look into creating
something like this in the near future. There use to be an old bbPress v1 plugin
that had this, I would like to see it resurrect. I think personally it might
be best as a plugin. Any user notes that I think myBB does is possible through
   a plugin though.
 * **threads/posts pending moderator’s approval**
 * Something like this I think is already possible to do alrady with bbPress. There
might be plugins that take advantage of this like bbPress moderation. This has
been enhanced somewhat already in 2.6.
 * **user groups**
 * BuddyPress adds this feature, and also bbP – Private Groups does this too but
a different take then what BuddyPress does.
 * **forum based on roles/user groups**
 * I think bbP – Private Groups can add this functionality already. I have contacted
the devs about this since it is a very common feature request though about implementing
some other plugins functionality since it is very simple to possibly add with
   a metabox in each forum.
 * **Shared theme with WordPress plays the biggest role in this case too.**
 * I already told you before in this topic how themes work with bbPress. It is about
the same how themes work with other plugins like woocommerce. If you install
a theme like BuddyBoss you should be set.
 * > If these plugins cover all features of vBulletin, then it’s my fault. Otherwise,
   > they aren’t enough for me.
   > Otherwise, they’re some kind of salesmen to me as said.
 * BuddyPress can do most of the social network features vBull does, and their could
more possible through adding plugins for bbPress or BuddyPress from there. And
that is not what I meant for salesmen talk before, because there are plugins
that can add functionality to bbPress to achieve something similar to vBull.
 * This line is basically what I was talking about when I said saleman talk, the
rest of the plugin description explain bbPress’s approach at being forum software.

 * > It’s sounds better/more powerful than vBulletin Board. So my expectation isn’t
   > unrealistic since the features I need are available with vBulletin Board.
 * It depends on how you interpret the description. I see it as sort of salesmen
talk in the beginning, then it basically tells you its approach here.
 * > We’re keeping things as small and light as possible while still allowing for
   > great add-on features through WordPress’s extensive plugin system. What does
   > all that mean? bbPress is lean, mean, and ready to take on any job you throw
   > at it.
 * Which goes back to what I was saying that bbPress lays most of the groundwork.
Its not like what you are saying with your vehicle analogy, it is not that minimum
 * > I don’t know what the developers are busy with within the past few years since
   > it doesn’t improve to be like MyBB at all.
 * I do not think the team is not really trying to be like others. Are MyBB trying
to be like Discourse?? What about something similar to FluxBB?? The bbPress contributers
have their own approach of what the plugin should be like. They might gain inspiration
from others here and there though, but just because one has a feature, it doesn’t
mean it should be present everywhere else in the core of it.
 * One of the advantages of bbPress over any other forum software is the WordPress
community. **Tons** of high quality plugins to choose from to optimize your site,
without needing different plugins that may do the same task for your forums and
your site, one plugin should work on both, like bbPress. Some plugins may even
do what features may be in other forum software. **Tons** of high quality theme
frameworks to choose from, this may not be limited to about to at least 25 free
themes, but maybe about a thousand on wordpress.org itself and many more on other
marketplaces. And also all you would need is one theme, not one for your forums
and one for your site. And WordPress itself, for creating something great for
bbPress to build upon, with adding a bunch of possibilities to your site. The
devs of bbPress also contribute heavily to many aspects of WordPress too.
 * Like I said there are features that the bbPress devs are considering and are
busy creating. It may not be something exactly like other forum software, but
it stands on its own, with its approach, and the WordPress community.

 * Sorry for the late reply, I did not subscribe to this topic before, but I created
this codex page awhile back though to help users like yourselves. bbPress has
an option to remove its data in the tools section. The only bug currently is
the bbPress roles staying, everything else can be removed from your database.
Also you do not need to install the delete roles plugin, but it just might be
easier for some users instead of placing PHP code in in their child theme or
   functionality plugin.

 * Haha there are always vehicle analogies for comparing forums software for some
reason. I don’t see it like that, bbPress gives users what they need in a forum,
its not just simple back and forth posts. If I had to make a car analogy I would
say bbPress is not a car with spoilers, a Jackhammer subwoofer, and scissor doors,
but something reliable day to day that could be pimped out with some plugins/
themes. I have seen bbPress molded into a site platform that functions similar
to Reddit does, but bbPress by default has most of the groundwork done for most
   users.
 * There are other forum software that is comparable to bbPress though like Fluxbb.
 * There are features that the devs are considering and would love to see in the

 * I don’t think profile builder is causing the issue, if it doesn’t show up in
the menu, you probably need custom code for your theme. The code should work
for most default themes though. You can test it out if you switch to a default
   theme real quick.
 * Oh and about you not posting on bbPress and BuddyPress. We tried to find out
why you may have trouble posting and couldn’t come across any possible issues
yet. One of the moderators retyped your whole post and did not have an issue
posting it, and also that your user role has not changed to something that would
