Now using workaround for the broken widget code by using shortcode as advised in another thread at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/no-images-were-found-in-nextgen-widget. Posted here so others (who may well not have seen this solution) can use this as a workaround on live sites rather than waiting for bugs in widget code to be fixed!
@photocrati my problem is identical to original poster’s so why complicate matters by asking me to post a separate thread?! As digbymaass says – Problems evolve and interact. It helps US if close variations on a problem are on the same thread.
Please focus on diagnosing the actual problem

Same problem in NextGen widget as RoxyJo and getting “no images were found” with following settings
The widget settings that do not work are:
Show: 1 Original Images
Random
Width x Height: 400 X 300
Select: Only which are listed
Gallery ID: 1Galleries checked. Widget works when set to “All galleries” (even with random set) but I need to work with specific gallery ID.
Hope this newly introduced bug can be fixed soon.

Combination of NextGen 1.9.8 and Jetpack 2.0.4 now working for me with several jetpack modules disabled – “Sharing” seems to be the one which causes the problem.
Problem might be related to (new?) need to link jetpack with wordpress.com account to activate any features. Looks like previously this wasn’t required to activate all features, but now it is a forced condition 🙁
Combination of NextGen 1.9.8 and Jetpack 2.0.4 works on one site where Jetpack isn’t linked to my wordpress.com account – http://gofa.org.uk and fails on other sites where it is linked – http://falmouthtowncouncil.co.uk and several others.
There is now no way of using jetpack without a wordpress.com account – why should this be necessary for those hosting wordpress themselves?!
Yes, thoroughly annoying – exactly the same problem as original poster.
Please fix ASAP. Have disabled Jetpack on one site for now, but need both plugins on several clients’ sites and can’t afford to lose galleries…
