 * I had this problem with Bot Protection plugin by MalCare Security and I’m using
   Cloudways hosting – they installed this plugin when they ported over the site
   to their server when I changed hosting to them.
 * Anyway, I got in touch with Cloudways support, told them about the issue, and
   they fixed it then and there in 1 minute. I just refreshed the plugin page and
   the plugin updated fine. They “reset the file ownership to APP user” whatever
   that means.
 * Anyway, tldr, I got in touch with Cloudways and they sorted it out.

 * I don’t know if this is the issue or not but this worked for me on another site
   where I was using Google Authenticator.
 * If you have Google Authenticator on Android, go Settings > Time correction for
   codes > Sync now
 * Hope this helps

 * [@mbrsolution](https://wordpress.org/support/users/mbrsolution/) I was confused
   because I thought you were saying I should deactivate the plugin using PHPMyAdmin
   instead of doing it via the WordPress backend?
 * Anyway, I’ve deactivated the All In One WP Security & Firewall via the WordPress
   plugins page and then installed and activated the AIOWPS Reset Settings Plugin
   and tried to Access the settings page of this plugin by clicking on the “Settings”
   link to go to this page wp-admin/options-general.php?page=aiowps_reset_settings_plugin_options
 * and I got:
 * Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.
 * 🙁

 * Thanks [@mbrsolution](https://wordpress.org/support/users/mbrsolution/) but,
   to me, that appears to be documentation to uninstall and reinstall All In One
   WP Security & Firewall when you’ve been locked out.
 * What I want is a clean uninstall All In One WP Security & Firewall when you don’t
   want to use it again.
 * So, how do you uninstall All In One WP Security & Firewall so it “cleans up after
   itself”, so to speak.
 * If you just Deactivate the plugin it leaves tables on the MySQL database.
 * Hope this makes sense.

 * Thank you [@stickleback](https://wordpress.org/support/users/stickleback/)
 * My bad. It was actually WP Limit Login Attempts that was the culprit. I added
   a .bak to that in the /plugins/ folder and that fixed it.

 * [@dvascheta](https://wordpress.org/support/users/dvascheta/) really weird, the
   site doesn’t have an .htaccess on the site root – and I can’t work out why because
   I thought all my WordPress installs had .htaccess’s
 * Anyway, I’ve made one with the usually WordPress lines in there and it hasn’t
   made a difference. I still can’t login 🙁

 * I have the same problem. But I’ve been completely locked out of my own site.
 * If I try to login with the plug-in activated it doesn’t let me because it says
   too many login attempts.
 * If I deactivate the plug-in by renaming it in FTP the login screen just keeps
   on redirecting to the login screen when you click login. There’s no error message.
   It allows a change password but even when you do it just doesn’t let you login.

 * However, my host sorted this out by increasing the memory on the server.

 * I apologise I didn’t post the fix here as I usually do, and I’ve forgotten what

 * It’s now fixed. This is what my host told me:
 * The db_version in the wp_options table in the database did not match the version
   number in the version.php file. I updated the database to match the version.php
   file to correct this issue for you.
 * Hope this helps someone.

 * Update. I got my host to do a manual WP update to try to correct the issues.
   The main site is loading now.
 * However the wp-admin gives a 500 error and [http://robcubbon.com/wp-login.php](http://robcubbon.com/wp-login.php)
   still redirects to that other URL. [http://robcubbon.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F](http://robcubbon.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F)
 * we have all the plugins disabled at this time to be sure there was no plugin
   conflict with the update.
