Ok I have now found that below 2.7 there is no “add new” buttons available in the plugins area!
How else does one very basic user such as myself install plugins? Any help greatly appreciated.

I am on 2.6.5 and I do not have a left sidebar dashboard and I do not have an add new button. Does anyone know how else we can install Plugins?
