 * I seem to have solved the problem.
 * Here’s what helped:
 * 1. Made sure I had the URL set to [http://www.mysite.com](http://www.mysite.com)
   for Options in WordPress
 * 2. Set the Google Webmaster Tools to the preferred domain name of [http://www.mysite.com](http://www.mysite.com)
   and not [http://mysite.com](http://mysite.com)
 * 3. Reset the permissions for the sitemap.xml on my server to be 666 (only the
   sitemap nothing else)
 * 4. Did not do anything with the .htaccess file at this time (That would have
   been my next step.) I was also considering updating the Google-sitemap-generator
   2.7.1 to the new version 3.0 as another possibility.
 * Hope this helps with anyone else who has a similar problem!

 * Hello again,
 * I have been searching for hours for an answer to the problem with the site prefix.
 * I have now set the preferred domain name prefix to the [http://www.mysite.com](http://www.mysite.com)
   with the Google webmaster tools.
 * I have also attempted to delete the sitemap and then rebuild without any luck.
 * It seems that the .htaccess file may need to be changed. I have been reading
   what is posted on this site about file permissions. Evidently, the .htaccess
   needs to be set with permissions such that WordPress can automatically generate
   rewrite rules.
 * I am having trouble finding this file in my control panel. I see that it is there
   when I ftp something to my directory. But when I go into the directory files
   otherwise I can’t find this file in the root directory where it seems to be (
   when I ftp).
 * Does anyone know if I need to change the permissions to solve my problems? And
   if so how do I find the file?
 * As you can see I am quite confused at this point.
 * Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

 * I think the quickest thing for me to do would be the later. That is, remove the
   call to the sidebar. But I don’t know how. I can’t access the dashboard at this
   point.
 * If you have any quick tips I would appreciate it. In the mean time I will upload
   all of the plugins I had been using. However, won’t I have the same problem of
   not being able to reach the dashboard to activate them?
 * Thank you Shadow for your help,

 * My apologies. I wasn’t at all clear. When the upgrade said everything was O.K.
   that’s when I discovered everything was lost. An empty wordpress page would open
   with the default theme. It did have my blog name and the indication of files.
   But it included an error message on the lower right telling me that a connection
   to the database could not be made. (What you will see if you go to [http://www.womenandweight.com](http://www.womenandweight.com)).
 * That’s when I went to the config.php file to see if it had the correct information.
   The user name was wrong. I changed it.
 * Now when I try to do the upgrade, I get the error message:
 * “Error establishing a database connection
 * This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.
   php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost….etc.”
 * I didn’t even get this before. It seems to me that I might be closer to establishing
   a connection with the original database?
 * I seem to have all of the correct information in the config.php file. Does that
   mean the original database is gone? No, I do not have a backup because this is
   not the file/domain I had intended to be working with. (See first post).
 * Thanks,
 * Lori

 * I have now tried to upgrade the installation to see if I might establish a connection
   with the original database. At first I would get a message that everything was
   updated O.K.
 * So I opened the config.php file to see what was in there. The user name needed
   changing. So I did that.
 * Now I get the error establishing connection with database message. Am I on the
   right track? Or will there be nothing in the database anymore even if I have
   the config.php set up correctly?
