 * Just found it! Thanks for the help – it appears that with a WordPress update,
   the option to alter individual posts is now in the Screen Options at the top;
   but you have to be on that specific page for the option to show up. Updates seem
   to be able to override previous global setting sometimes. For anyone with similar
   issues, you may also need to add a comment actually enable this functionality
   for page visitors (or maybe just delete your cache).

 * Thank you, Jan. Exactly how do I check to see which posts have comments turned
   on? Is there a function for each individual post? Because globally, I’ve always
   allowed posts to receive comments by going to the Discussion tab and checking“
   Allow people to post comments on new articles”. Beneath this option, I see (These
   settings may be overidden for individual posts). I’d like to know how this is
   possible before I disable all plugins. Thanks again for taking a look
