Thanks Laura, I will try doing that to correct it, and hopefully that will work – but it is somewhat addressing the symptom and not the cause! Which is a shame because it will take me a long time to go through everything on the site and remove the errant question marks manually.

Thanks for looking – on this page: http://www.copywritenow.co.uk/ticking-cliche-boxes-original/ it appears near the italics and in one case after a full stop.
I haven’t been copying and pasting any text though, these have appeared in articles that I haven’t edited in months. And in some cases I have gone in and deleted the text and rewrote it and the question marks appeared again.
Thanks for such a quick reply, and for the compliment! That’s excellent, I did just adjust the header image size in the functions to do it, which doesn’t really skew the image so it’s a fine solution without having to resize the actual image.
