  • There seems to be some sort of fault with the wp_mail function.
    A fix is to edit function wp_new_user_notification in the pluggable.php file as follows

    // PJB: original code fails to create an email
    // wp_mail($user_email, sprintf(__(‘[%s] Your username and password’), get_option(‘blogname’)), $message);

    // try adding cc to admin’s email – it works!!
    wp_mail(get_option(‘admin_email’), sprintf(__(‘[%s] Your username and password’), get_option(‘blogname’)), $message, ‘Cc:’.$user_email);

    The error seems to be with a faulty install. I fixed mine by running Tools | Upgrade | Reinstall automatically. The fault with Visual Editor has gone now.

    This is still an inconsistent error with version 2.8.4.
    I’ve got two sites running this version under identical hosting conditions, one of which shows the same error mentioned above and one which is fine. There are hundreds of other folks with the same problem. Pity WordPress don’t answer this type of issue…

    wp_new_user_notification still fails to send emails to users who register themselves, although it does successfully send emails to the administrator. This is weird since the code looks as if it really should work!

    As an example you can try registering on http://www.timecrystal.co.uk. The Facebook Connector makes no difference and gives easy access to the Register page.

    There are several other users who have reported this error, so it looks pretty common.
