Many thanks, @mansurahamed, that explains the reason perfectly, though I’d rather the field was present, but write protected – otherwise it makes it look as though they haven’t given an email address. Unfortunately, I’ve also now found the new email field workaround doesn’t work, in that the registration page insists on the ‘proper’ field (ie the one with user_email as its key) being completed for setting up a WP user.
The problem then is – I asked in another thread if it was possible to hide the Account page in the user settings gearwheel dropdown, as I only wanted users to access their Profile for editing; if they do indeed need access to the Account page to edit their email address, is it possible to edit the page itself? For example, I’d need to remove the First Name and Last Name fields and have a non-editable Full Name (supplied by a separate system after account approval).
Thanks again for your help – much appreciated
PS – sorry – I know it’s possible to remove those fields from the Settings/General/Account tab, but can I add fields?

Just to be clear – I didn’t create another field with user_email as its meta_key; that’s already assigned to the pre-defined Email Address field that I was trying to use in the first place, which is the one that won’t display on the Profile form. UM won’t allow you to create another field using it. The new field I created has the meta_key email instead, & that’s the one that works.
If it’s a glitch, it’s one that repeated on two completely separate sites, which seems odd.
Thanks for the help, though

Thanks very much for the response.
1. The visibility is indeed set to everywhere.
2. I had already deleted the whole site (it was only a test one) & recreated it – exactly the same thing.
So – I created a new email text box with a new meta_key (just email, instead of the default user_emaill) and this one does now appear. This would solve my problem, but I’d still like to know why a field with the meta_key user_email doesn’t show on the Profile page.
Pete
Back again – I’ve sorted the appearance of meta fields under the heading; I obviously hadn’t read the tooltip saying ‘Fields selected here will appear . . . etc etc’. My apologies.
I’d still like to edit that dropdown, if possible, though.
An example of the heading I need to change: https://imgur.com/a/q1pRu7U
Thanks
@danieliser – thanks for the response; we haven’t had an email conversation, I’m afraid, & I must admit I’d shelved popups for the time being!
BUT your solution worked, thank you, so when I have time to revisit this, at least I’ll know I’ve now got a functioning popup.Cheers

In reply to: [Themify - WooCommerce Product Filter] Was working, now it isn’t@keress, I hope you don’t mind my adding to your thread, but I’ve just discovered I have the same problem.
I’m using Storefront on WP 5.0.2, with PHP 7.2 on the server. My page, in case it’s any use, is https://therileyrmcentre.co.uk/shop
Pete
Misunderstanding it is then; I’m OK with that. Thanks for your help.
If anyone else has any idea what that error might mean – I’m all ears!
Hi – many thanks for your reply
I’m using WP 5, up-to-date Parabola theme, Elementor 2.3.4. One thing I noticed in the System Info was:
Errors:
TypeError: n is undefined
at https://xxxxxxxxxxx/wp-content/plugins/elementor/assets/js/editor.min.js?ver=2.3.4 – 2:136722I’ve now tried copying styles from one widget to another, and sure enough that works fine. I suspect I may be overreaching myself with trying to copy section styles, and in fact copying widget styles is probably all I need to be able to do – it’s entirely possible that I was expecting too much of the software.
I would appreciate your thoughts on that error, though.
Thanks
Hi @slaffik
Thank you for taking the time to reply; apologies for asking the question – being relatively ignorant I was alarmed by the extra warnings on top of the op’s.
I’ve now upgraded to 7.2 and, as you suggest, there are no problems, and my site is running much more smoothly & using far less resources.
Regards
Pete
Hi – I’m still on 5.6, & ran a compatibility checker for 7.2, which produced:
69 | ERROR | Function mcrypt_create_iv() is deprecated since PHP 7.1 and removed since PHP 7.2; Use random_bytes() or OpenSSL instead
69 | ERROR | Extension ‘mcrypt’ is deprecated since PHP 7.1 and removed since PHP 7.2; Use openssl (preferred) or pecl/mcrypt once available instead
108 | ERROR | Function mcrypt_create_iv() is deprecated since PHP 7.1 and removed since PHP 7.2; Use random_bytes() or OpenSSL instead
108 | ERROR | Extension ‘mcrypt’ is deprecated since PHP 7.1 and removed since PHP 7.2; Use openssl (preferred) or pecl/mcrypt once available instead
108 | ERROR | The constant “MCRYPT_DEV_URANDOM” is deprecated since PHP 7.1 and removed since PHP 7.2Should I ignore these apparent ‘errors’, since they all say ‘removed since PHP 7.2’?
Thanks
PeteThanks very much for the suggestion. I tried altering the default to ‘Member’, but it doesn’t seem to have helped. When users first register, and while they’re waiting for admin approval, the Role column shows member; I then change their role to Customer, & it shows Customer in the Role column; I then use ‘Approve membership’ in the UM Action dropdown, they get their approval email & everyone’s happy – but it doesn’t show Customer,Member in the Role column (just Customer still) unless I go into User properties and change the Ultimate Member role to Member. Then it shows both roles in the column. The trouble is, I have seen it do that by itself in the past, on an earlier version of the site, so I know it can happen – unless of course it’s a change that’s come about when UM’s been updated.
I hope that’s clear!
PS – I’ve enabled Debug mode, but that doesn’t produce any output; presumably it doesn’t think the popup is running – though it does appear in the admin bar
Hi
Thanks for the quick response. It’s just set to Default.
Pete
OK – thanks for letting me know; look forward to the update!
