 * Thanks esmi for the suggestions. Unfortunately, neither of those solutions worked.
The theme is set to twentythirteen, and now in order to display any other theme
I had to rename the new theme folder to “twentythirteen” via FTP.
 * I reset the plugin folder via phpmyadmin and also tried the FTP method by adding“.
   hold”, neither solution worked though.
 * That leaves the following option:
 * “- re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.
php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that
you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.”
 * However, I want to mention again that I did not do a manual install of wordpress,
it was installed via a script (I think called fantastico) provided by my host.
As such, there are a few additional files that probably should not be removed,
and I don’t want to mess anything up further than it already is.
 * Thanks again for any help!

 * I deleted the plugins folder and replaced it, again within wordpress I can’t
view installed plugins. This did not resolve the issue.
 * I tried reverting to the default theme, again I can’t do this via WP admin, I
had to rename the folder via FTP. The theme changes, but the issue persists where
I cannot access themes or installed plugins.
 * I will try the last option soon. I also did not mention that I didn’t do a manual
install of wordpress, I used some script that was offered to set up the database
and everything automatically. This may be the cause of the issue, but I’m relatively
new to all of this and don’t know much about it.
 * Any help is appreciated 🙂

 * Thank to you both, I ultimately went with the plugin even if it’s standard to
edit that stuff in the stylesheet. It’s just easier for me and makes more sense
   🙂
 * The plugin seems helpful, so thanks.

 * > Eeek! Such a password would be exposed to anyone who hacks into the server.
 * If someone hack into the server you’ve probably got bigger issues…

 * Fair enough, it wasn’t ever really an issue for me, I just wasn’t sure if this
had been acknowledged (although I had a hard time imagining nobody noticing).

 * Such as requiring a password in the wp-config file to be used as the default
password to log into WordPress. That way only the person with access to the wp-
config file can set the password.

 * Well I added the tag, and I have posted on the qtranslate forums. I’ve looked
pretty thoroughly through the settings on qtranslate and feel there is no option
to do what I want to do, although it does include a widget that can be added
to the sidebar of each page. I’d much rather have the links in the navigation
bar at the top though, I just need them to follow the format: mysite.com/[current
   page]/?lang=es?
