Sure my friend, it was quite easy in the end.
Goto Dashboard – Appearance – Color Options.
If you then scroll down there is MAIN – Font Size.
I set it to 14.

I did as you said and it all came back.
I then put the plugins back on one by one and it seems to be “Simple Local Avatars” that was the rogue plugin for me.

I have already disabled all plugin’s and also tried TWENTY TWELVE THEME. Sadly to no avail.
It still has exactly the same bug.
Very frustrating as I am sure the answer must be simple but hours later I am none the wiser.
