 * Gah!
 * Nevermind. I figured it out.
 * It’s a plugin I’m using that lets you selectively turn Dashboard boxes on and
   off, and overrides settings made directly on the page. Turning it off on the
   plugin’s Settings page took care of it.
 * FYI, the plug in is AG Custom Admin Settings (v1.2.7.3).
 * It’s got occasional issues, but it’s a nice plugin. Lots of control over how
   the Admin area looks and works… obviously….
 * Will mark this as resolved.

 * I should maybe add that this is not a new site. I mention that because the Help
   drop down says that this box “Shows links for some of the most common tasks when
   setting up a new site.”
 * Thanks!

 * I just discovered that this was happening too. Exactly as described.
 * In addition to fixing this, it would be even better if Menus could be made something
   that you could specifically specify to export/import, as yo can with other item/
   post-types as an alternative to the default “All Content” option.
 * Seems like that would be a pretty easy thing to do… I’ve been looking for an
   export/import menus-only plugin but haven’t found one yet……

 * Hi. Any new developments on using multiple instances of WP-Cumulus?

 * Hi. I faced the same thing. I’m a total noob with WP, so take the following with
   that in mind please. What I did was….
 * I simply moved the ‘wordpress’ directory (including its subdirs) up one level,
   so that it was sitting in the domain root. I’m not certain, but I probably also
   edited the existing index.php so that it pointed to the correct folder (basically
   the reverse of the instructions on the page you linked to.)
 * This worked, but I found that I only had the option to have blogs in subdomains,
   not in sub directories. Not sure why; there was also a problem with how WP constructed
   the site paths, something to do with my blog being “more than 1-month old,” which
   made them go 404 every time (I posted about this within the last few days.)
 * What I eneded up doing was taking a backup/export of the entries etc (in the
   Tools menu), and then doing a totally fresh install with an empty database. Once
   I did that, everything worked.
 * HTH

 * Also, it would be nice if closed full-width nav widgets would display on a hover,
   the same as when they’re ‘minimized’. It would save a click and feel faster. (
   Would be nice if widgets, generally, could display/open on a hover, like when
   dragging a widget to a closed sidebar. Or am I missing something?)

 * Hi. Thanks for the reply. I would post a screen shot, but I deleted that install(
   and cleared out the database) and when I reinstalled everything, that error/message
   wasn’t generated. (Sorry.)
 * FWIW, when I got that message, it was on a WP installation that I had previously
   a) physically moved on my server from a subdir to the root (as per the recommendations
   for multisite use) and b) then upgraded both to beta2 (from b1) and then to multisite
   use. So who knows what might have gone wrong or unexpectedly in that likely too-
   clever process.
 * But I’m pretty sure the message was from WP, as the options to use sub-dirs or
   sub-doms were missing, and it simply informed me that I had to proceed with sub-
   doms — that is, it seemed pretty official.
 * This probably acounted for the problem I asked about in this post…
 * [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/398601?replies=1](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/398601?replies=1)
 * …which also didn’t recur once I did a proper fresh install.
 * Hmm. Oh well.
 * (As an aside, it’s such a pleasure dealing with this kind of stuff with WP than
   it was with Movable Type. Now if only there was a reliable way to import from
   MT, to go along with WP3’s cool new features….)

 * I meant to say, could I avoid that message, and instead GET the option to have
   the network in regular child dirs?

 * Thank you! The problem I was having is that I copied and pasted the line…
 * define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true);
 * …from a web page, and the single quotes got turned into “fancy quotes” so the
   line wasn’t working. Once I caught that error, I saw the various options multisite
   options. I think I’m on my way now.
 * Thanks again!

 * I’ve been using WordPress for the last two weeks and I am thrilled with the switch.
   Totally. The worst thing about it is that I didn’t switch sooner.
 * There’s not a single thing I miss from Movable Type, with one exception: I liked
   being able to manage more than one blog/site structure at a time. But my understanding
   is that this is possible with WordPress MU, and that WPMU is being absorbed into
   WP3, which is just around the corner. So yay.
 * (I tried several times to get the current version of WPMU working on a site where
   WP was already installed and working, but it couldn’t connect to the database
   for some reason. I’ll try it again when 3 comes out.)
 * Oh yeah. It wasn’t fun importing from MT (using the WP import page) and not getting
   tags.

 * Thanks for that suggestion. Those are both very cool plugins. But unless I’m
   missing something (very possible!), they can redirect within a single site, and
   they can redirect from the current site (where the plugins are installed) to
   another site, but they can’t redirect from an OLD site (where the plugin is NOT
   installed) to the new one, even if both sites are on the same domain.
 * In this case, the site I want to redirect from is a Movable Type site to a WP
   site.
 * In other words:

    TO:
   [http://www.domain.com/wp/page](http://www.domain.com/wp/page)
