 * I found the error. in setting up the custom permalinks i had used a word (“teaching”)
   that was one of my category bases which then did not allow me to see any pages
   nested below that category. i fixed it by simply using a generic word (“word”)
   for setting up the custom permalinks to resolve that conflict.
