That is so typically me…. why do I try the easiest things at last? Switching the Theme back to default solved the problem. So it is not caused by the plugin but by the theme….

I think I have the same problem. This is a fresh WP installation, your gallery was added and activated.
Then I created a gallery and linked it with a new page. The result:
Slideshow: works
Single Image: Works
Gallery view: Only a small blank frame per image, look at http://test.rauschenberg.info/?page_id=7
If you want admin access just let me know, this is a test installation anyway. Any help would be highly appreciated….
