Try temporarily deactivating all plugins and switching to the default Twenty Fifteen theme and see if it works. It sounds like you can still get in the admin? In this case it looks like you’re using Avada. It sounds like maybe it’s displaying attached images on top of the inserted images, which doesn’t usually happen. Which theme are you using?
