 * esmi, thank you for your help, much appreciated.
 * I did however find a plugin that done the work for me. So if anyone using the
   sliding door theme has the same problem then all they need to is install and 
   activate the ‘Advanced Excerpt’ plugin.

 * So in theory I have to create an archives.php in my child theme, then simply 
   add the code into the child then and it should hopefully override it?
 * How would I start up an archives.php in the child theme though. Would I just 
   need to copy the top of the actual parent archives.php?

 * Sorry to come across as a complete ‘noob’ but what do you mean by a child theme?
 * As you make have realised, coding and me do not mix, haha.
