 * Thank you [@lcf](https://wordpress.org/support/users/lcf/). I am pleased to say
   that within the last two hours my team may have identified a problem and implemented
   a fix.
 * **I wanted to give anyone that may be looking at this thread an update on our
   experience.**
    Our local system administrator has been trouble-shooting what 
   we thought was an unrelated JSON error. She identified that the JSON error was
   due to a site caching issue. Fixing the _JSON_ error, “magically” fixed the “
   Tag” and “Categories” problem.
 * These were her steps:
    1. Install a new plug-in: WP Super Cache. 2. Restarted
   IIS a few times (two or three times).
 * We were both surprised that the fix to, what we considered was an “unrelated”
   problem, solved our “Tags” and “Categories” issue.

 * I apologize for including the wrong image link (the link is updated in the snippet
   below):
    4. This shows the edit post page (Faculty We Remember). The Tags (Fall2020,
   OutlookMag) and Categories (Classnotes, Magazine) that should be associated with

 * I don’t think that “Tag Groups” have anything to do with this issue. I am having
   a problem assigning Categories and Tags to posts?
 * Steps used to troubleshoot:
    1. Use Health Check plugin. 2. Deactivated all plugins.
   3. Set the site to a default WordPress theme “Twenty Twenty-One”
 * These steps did provide any insight, the WordPress interface was the same, Categories
   and Tags could not be assigned to posts.
 * I am trying to determine if this is an issue with WordPress in IIS, permission
   settings or something else entirely.

 * Note: We are trying to run WordPress on IIS. Could the issue be with IIS or with
   permissions?
