I tried a manually upgrade and about 100 files in the wp-admin/includes folder could not be copied. Despite that, the site now believes that it’s fully updated to 6.8 and appears to be functioning as usual. However if I try to update translations or the WordPress included themes it still triggers the error. I took the nuclear option and reinstalled my operating system. The problem’s gone. The theme didn’t need an update. I switched the calendar to an existing jQuery-ui theme and the functionality was restored but obviously it no longer matches the look of the website. It’s not ideal but it corrects the issue until the plugin is fixed.
