 * The scripts and plugins are well and good (Spam Karms + Refer Karma makes like
better), but sometimes its good to play on offense instead of defense all the
   time.
 * I’ve done some research, identified one spamhouse as being responsible for 85%
of my spam, found out he/it is an affiliate marketer for 13 online casinos, found
his identifing URLs and created a petition to be signed and sent to the top brass
of the casinos’ umbrella business association.
 * Because of several factors, I think there’s a good chance these guys will take
action against one of the blogosphere’s most notorius spammers if a few of us
sign the petition. Read the details here:

 * Please consider taking a step toward reclaiming your servers and blogs. If we
can hit these cretins in the wallets, we are hitting them where it hurts.

 * I was just getting a trickle at [Netaloid](http://www.netaloid.com) until November.
Then the volume gradually increased and, by the middle of January it was a gusher.
 * Spam Karma and Spam Refer, in conjunction with some .htaccess scripting, have
pretty much choked off the spam.
 * However, it always annoyed me to see these characters using my blog to increase
   their spam fees.
 * Today I am happy to report that I’ve discovered a way to strike back. At least
at the guy I call the Poker Spamster, who has been responsible for 80% of my
   comment/referral log spam or more.
 * The scripts and plugins are all well and good, but this method puts us on the
offense for once and hits the guy right in the wallet.
 * The full story [is here](http://netaloid.com/index.php/archives/2005/02/24/casino-spam-part-ii-voiding-an-agreement/).

 * Yes, I’ve checked it numerous times. The first time there *was* a blank line
at the end. I removed it, but comment moderation remained on. I have since removed
all words but one on the list and made sure there are no blanks. Comment moderation
   still is stuck.
I’ve seen posts from a few others in the same boat, which leads
me to conclude there’s a bug at play.

 * I guess I’ll have to assume this is a known WP bug. If any work-around exists
that any of you know of, please post it in a reply. I’d be extremely grateful.

IMO it’s a pretty serious issue because moderating comments drives away would-
be participants in a blog. Thanks for any help and ideas. Loid

 * Hi folks, I’m having the same problem as dherren, and I too had a blank last
line at the bottom. However, having deleted it, I still cannot get comment moderation
   to turn off.
I’m running WP 1.2.1. This has been going on for some time, both
before and since I installed Blacklist (2.6.1). I have tried it with even the
box unchecked for requiring a name and email. No joy. I’ve searched the forums
and the web and seen a couple others with the same problem, but so far I haven’t
found a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Loid
