 * Thanks MarkRH, that plugin does seem to revert my emojis to the native set. I
   didn’t try the disable emojis plugin since it’s been so long since it was last
   updated.
 * Still curious what this plugin is doing in the background and how it relates
   to how they were being handled prior to this change in WordPress.

 * I conveniently installed Google Chrome yesterday after my WordPress automatically
   updated to 4.4.1 but before I looked at my web site again. So of course I spent
   hours blaming the browser installation for replacing the Apple emoji set I’m
   accustomed to seeing on my Mac, only to realize it was WordPress itself inserting
   Android-like emoji images.
 * This is the only thread I’ve come across that seems related. How do I get my
   WordPress site to display device native emojis like before? This should just
   be a setting.
 * I see some plugins that spawned around 4.2 but I only observed this issue starting
   with 4.4.1.
 * Kyle
