 * Hi, thanks to both of you for responding, I tried disabling the plugs in, and
   changing the theme – none of these worked, even with the basic word press skeleton
   theme. In the end I installed a “Classic Widgets” plugin which seems to have 
   fixed the problem for now, even with Smart slider 3 installed.

 * I cannot access the dashboard to disable the plug ins? or change the theme.

 * I’m not sure if I have the same problem, the site seems to be working fine, but
   when I try and log into the Admin/Dashboard nothing happens. I had an email to
   say I had updated to 4.7.2. a couple of days ago before the problem seemed to
   start.
