In reply to: Would love a review and maybe some ideas for future dev’sNiceCarvings,
Thank you for your kind words.
I’m always on the look out for ideas/criticisms/improvements that can be done to the site. I estimate that there is still around a months worth of work through my full ‘todo’ list for the site…

In reply to: How many posts can WP hold comfortably before affecting performance?Many thanks for that MichaelH although I’m curious as to the “according to Otto”. Do you not think there is an issue? Or is just nothing you have seen?
Thanks again…

In reply to: How many posts can WP hold comfortably before affecting performance?Anyone else got any advice on this?
I expect my site to have well in excess of 1,000 posts and really need to know whether changing my permalink to:
/%year%/%category%/%postname%/
Would help overcome the problems pointed out by macmanx
Thanks for any assistance

In reply to: Can someone explain “Hooks” and “do_action” to me?Hi Macmanx,
Thanks for the info. I’ve read most of it and I *kind of* understand hooks…So a hook is basically a gap in the code at certain junctures that allows plugins to interject something or alter something if they wish? Is that correct?
The trouble I’ve got is that I can’t find any other reference to register_post in my code anywhere (using a Search program that checks every php file).
I would expect to find an add_action(‘register_post’, ‘some_function’) somewhere if I’m understanding your information correctly??
Or am I missing something here??
Thanks

In reply to: How many posts can WP hold comfortably before affecting performance?Ooops!! I have /%category%/%postname%/ as my permalink structure..
Am I right in thinking that if I change it to:
/%year%/%category%/%postname%/
Then it will be ok??
Thanks for all your help

In reply to: www.firsttouch.dkI like the background, it looks great.
You could maybe have little footballs next to links on the right hand side?
Basically just try and incorporate as much about football in to your site as possible. Red and yellow cards (perhaps for anywhere that you have an OK/Update and Cancel button – red for the cancel and yellow for update)
Just rambling now….
Keep up the good work. π

In reply to: Can someone help with this SQL queryHi MichaelH
Thanks for your reply and your link. Is it possible to order by ANY meta value then? For instance could I do the following…
$params=array(
‘showposts’=>2,
‘post_status’ => ‘publish,pending’,
‘meta_key’=>’_needed’,
‘meta_value’=>’true’,
‘meta_key’=>’THE_KEY_I_WANT_TO_ORDER_BY’,
orderby=meta_value
);
$query = new WP_Query;
$my_results = $query->query($params);???
Thanks for your support π
MichaelH
I’ve tested your method and it works an absolute treat so that will be what I’m using from now on.
Thank you once again for your help.

In reply to: What code stops activation links after 5 days without being clicked?Yes. I allow users to pick their passwords when they register. They then get the email that makes them confirm their email addy.
