 * Absolutely perfect suggestion. Installed and it works.
 * I also see why that plugin failed to show up when I did a search. Odd name. Someone
   needs to improve that.

 * One more question? In either process–export/import or backup, does it involve
   any files from MySQL which, on my computer, are in the MAMP directory? Or does
   this just replace the files in the WordPress directory?

 * Seems almost too easy, Shane. So I just create a new installation of WordPress
   and MAMP on my laptop, then export the website from my old desktop blog and import
   it into the laptop blog.
 * Hmmm. I’ll have to try that tomorrow.
 * thanks,

 * Actually, those look to be exactly what I’m looking for. I’m pretty busy with
   other matters right now. So I’ll have to wait until much later this evening to
   run them down. Carefully. Hopefully, I can do that while I’m watching the tail
   end of the Yankees Twins game.
 * Again, thanks,

 * Terrific suggestion. But how do I access MySQL database vis PHPmyAdmin if I’m
   told the password is wrong?

 * Good thought. But I’m so new to this stuff I don’t know how to get into the database
   without going through an administrative form. I use the one in MAMP at the moment.
   And was denied access to the database. Which led me to have to reinstall.
 * I need some means of saving the contents of WP posts and pages outside the database
   on a regular basis. Without it I have no confidence in working in WP.
 * Thanks, anyway.

 * Thanks. Since the old MySQL database denies me access and that’s the reason I
   was forced to do a reinstall, I’m, apparently, just out of luck.

 * Thanks yet again. But that isn’t quite it.
 * I just keep feeling there have to be files either in the wordpress directory
   or somewhere in the MAMP directories that contain just the text. Which I could
   then copy out and paste into a post in the new installation.

 * Thanks for the quick reply. But I’m afraid my problem is more serious than that.
   Because I’m just beginning to work with all this and now find myself unable to
   get MAMP to work, I can’t access, via the admin pages, the old files.
 * I had assumed some file in some directory had the contents of a given page/post,
   just the text. I gather, from what you say, that’s not the case.
 * And that I might find them in either the word press files directory or in the
   MySQL file directory. I gather not.
 * Nonetheless, thanks again.

 * I’ve now concluded that my problem above is in MAMP and is a consequence of a
   misstep when I was installing Joomla. I did something to block access to MySQL.
   I have no idea what.
 * So I’ve decided the next best strategy is to reinstall MAMP. I would like to
   save all my Word Press files work, if possible, however. The problem is that
   some of the WordPress work is in the MAMP folder.
 * 1. At the moment, both the main set of files are in a WordPress older in the
   sites secton outside the MAMP folder. Thus, they are not in the htdocs folder.
   So no problem there.
 * 2. However, I see in the ‘db’ folder in the MAMP folder, another folder labeled‘
   mysql’. It, in turn, contains WordPress related files for my work. I would love
   to be able to save them and replace them here once I complete a reinstall of
   MAMP.
 * 3. So my questions:
    a. Is that overall strategy–reinstall MAMP–likely to solve
   my problem? b. Can I copy the MAMP/db/mysql/wordpress materials out prior to
   the reinstall, and then replace the contents of that reinstalled folder with
   my old materials. And expect them to work?
 * Any help is much appreciated,

 * Tried it but it didn’t work. Something else is going on. Is there a password
   file in the MAMP application folders?

 * Thanks for the quick reply, Shane.
 * My problem is that, given my status as a rank beginner, the only access I know
   I have to the MySQL database configuration is via the browser window when I boot
   up MAMP. And I’m denied access at precisely that point. And, if I understand
   that error message correctly, the my MAMP startup script uses the password ‘YES’
   when it should be using ‘root’.
 * You suggest I check the wp-config.php file. I can see it but have no way to know
   what the php means.
 * Is there a specific piece of text I should, for instance, change a ‘YES’ to a‘
   root?’
 * John
