 * Phplist fulfills this requirement via its double opt-in system.
 * That is, once a user signs up to the mailing list, they will receive a confirmation
   email to ask if they really do want to sign up. If they never confirm, then they
   are not added to the list. If they do sign up, then they get another confirmation
   email, which includes links to customize their info and/or unsubscribe.
 * This functionality is all built into phpList. The Sign Me Up plugin just acts
   as a front end to it.
 * Cheers,
    J

 * lynxgd – thanks for this tip! Phplist can be a little tricky sometimes – not
   as user friendly as WordPress. Thanks for figuring this out and sharing it.

 * I’m not sure what might else might be happening. Maybe something related to the
   theme or .htaccess? Try using a default WP theme like 2014, 2015 etc, try un-
   forcing https, or maybe another plugin conflict.

 * Thanks for the link and additional info.
 * It appears that the plugin is working fine and that communication is there between
   it and phplist. However, phplist is not sending back a visible response – only
   HTML meta tags, no HTML body code or displayable text. That is why you just see
   a blank on the wordpress site.
 * The message that should be displayed in this blank area comes from phplist, and
   it is something that you must setup in phplist.
 * In phplist, login as admin and go to edit your subscribe page (Config -> Subscribe
   Pages, edit icon). In the General Information tab, scroll down to the section
   titled “Text to display when subscription with an AJAX request was successful”.
   Make sure that you have something here in this box (valid HTML). If you don’t
   know what to put, see the screenshot in my tutorial: [http://www.jaromy.net/wordpress-plugins/sign-me-up/](http://www.jaromy.net/wordpress-plugins/sign-me-up/)

 * If the email address is being added to phplist, but no confirmation email is
   received to that address, then it sounds like phplist is not setup correctly.
 * As for the blank space below the widget title, send me a link to a page with
   the subscribe form on it so I can take a look.

 * Jeff – I don’t recall seeing this behavior before. I did visit your website,
   but I’m only able to find the mailchimp email form. If you end up re-enabling
   it live someplace on your site, let me know and I can take a look.

 * Hi bertvandepoel – thanks for making this clear. It is documented on my website(
   [http://www.jaromy.net/wordpress-plugins/sign-me-up/](http://www.jaromy.net/wordpress-plugins/sign-me-up/)),
   but a little buried with the other information. Perhaps it will be useful for
   me to update the FAQ to make it clearer. Hopefully it is all working for you
   now 🙂

 * Hey guys,
 * Cool, thanks for the feedback. I will see about adding it to the feature list
   for a future release. FYI, there will be an update in the next week to comply
   with the upcoming 4.3 release, but I won’t have time to implement the shortcodes
   by then.
 * As a workaround in the meantime, try using a theme or plugin that will allow
   you to create custom widget areas. You can then place these anywhere on a page.
   The Flycase theme by WPWolf is an example of this. I believe there are also plugins
   that will allow you accomplish the same thing, but with your own theme if you
   have one that you are already using and like.
 * Cheers,
    Jaromy

 * Hi fisherofer,
 * The plug-in has not been tested with multi-site. And unfortunately I don’t have
   any experience with using multi-site, so I’m not really sure what could be happening.
   As a starting point, I would use the browser debugger to check for any errors.
   Also look at the page source code in the browser debugger to see if the plug-
   in code is there.
 * Cheers,
    Jaromy

 * Hi schultzter – unfortunately at this time, the plug-in does not support multi-
   language sites. Some more work needs to be done to update the code so it can
   support multi-lingual.

 * Hi jumpmobi,
 * Unfortunately, I don’t have experience with woocommerce, so I can’t say for sure.
   However, you can add the sign up form anywhere you can add a widget in WordPress.
   So if you can add widgets to WooCommerce pages, then I imagine you should just
   be able to add Sign Me Up as well.
 * If you only want it to appear on certain pages, I believe there are other plugins(
   and certain themes, too) that will allow you to customize which widgets appear
   on specific pages. So perhaps, you can find a solution using Sign Me Up in combination
   with another plugin or theme.
 * Cheers,
    J

 * flrichar,
 * A neat workaround! Yeah, I’m not sure what the standard/default setting is for
   most web hosts regarding the “FollowSymlinks” setting in Apache. To be honest,
   I’m not even sure what it is set to on my host’s server. But if it works, then
   great.
 * Cool, thanks for the tip!

 * Hi Michael,
 * Thanks for your updates and info. Can you tell me which versions of phpList and
   WordPress you are using? Also, what are the domains and subdomains (URLs) for
   your phpList and WordPress? If I can look at what’s happening, it would help
   with the debugging.
 * As for the error message, it’s a good idea – but I’d really like to see if I
   can fine tune the error detection a little bit better, and try and detect why
   an error is being flagged if the email still goes through just fine.
 * Sorry you’re having issues, hopefully I can figure out what’s going on.
 * Cheers,
    J
