I’ve found out by chance that somehow my default wp-content/uploads folder had changed, meaning it was actually duplicated in my site’s root directory (a level up from public_html). I have now reset it and moved all the files from there into the proper folder, and I’m now able to set the plugin to WP Media Library and it works fine.
