 * Hi,
    I see the comments have not been closed here so here is my three cents worth–
   use the Squirrly plugin for this. Unfortunately it’s a plugin which carries a
   $9.99 per month price tag but it is worth it. It won’t track visitors IP though.
 * I also use Counterize – it does work on the latest WP version 3.8.1 without any
   problems. It does track IP which can be illegal in some countries.
 * Is Squirrly worth it? Most WP users prefer Joost de Valk’s WordPress SEO, it’s
   free and very powerful. I don’t see a posts read status though. Squirrly is designed
   to make it easy.
 * Hope this helps.
 * Let me know if you found a better alternative. Your request is not unique and
   I think many users would scramble to download a freebie plugin for this purpose.
