    Hi @bradvin,

Here’s some additional info. Remember that above I stated that I now think this is a WordPress issue, not a FooGallery issue, but I’m surprised others aren’t reporting it as surely Foo customers want to override the WordPress default thumbnails at some point. I’ve posted on the WordPress support forum but have not received a reply yet.

My WordPress Media settings are set to 225 x 225 square thumbnails.

    – Create a new page
    – Insert new jpg on page, size = thumbnail, link to media file
    – Works fine; WordPress cropped the thumbnail image from the center out, as to be expected

I want to change the cropping of the thumbnail, so in page edit mode, I click the pencil icon on the image to edit the image, then click on Edit Original.

I click on “Apply Changes to: Thumbnail” on the right, click on Crop. Under Image Crop > Selection, I type 225 x 225 as I want the new cropped thumbnail to be 225 x 225px so that it will replace the default created WP thumb. That adjusted the size of the lasso tool appearing over the image to a 225 x 225px square. I drag it around, choose my new crop, click Crop again, then click Save. Next screen I click Update. Then I update the page. The image is still cropped as the WordPress default. My new custom crop did not save or appear. Yet I can see it on the server. It didn’t overwrite the original WP generated thumb, but rather, created a new version with a much longer filename.

Editing the image directly in the media library also will not save the cropped image.

If I repeat the above steps, but this time do one of two things, the crop WILL save and will appear on the actual page.

    1 – Instead of choosing a 225 x 225px size, I choose 226 x 226, or 230 x 230, or 300 x 300, and so on. ANY size except 225 x 225 will save and will appear on the page as the new thumbnail. This makes no sense. I want to override a 225×225 with another 225×225.
2 – I can also choose aspect ratio = 1:1 instead of typing in a pixel size under Selection. That will let me crop the image for a new thumbnail with a 1:1 square ratio and allows me to save it, and will appear on the page as the new thumbnail.

At first I thought this was a FooGallery issue, as it appeared while I was trying to create custom cropped thumbnails from inside Foo. But then I tried to isolate the problem by changing my theme to 2021, deactivating most plugins, and testing images on pages outside of FooGallery and the problem exists there. It also exists on another hosting company’s server.

    Hello, @bradvin

Thanks for your reply. Checking the “Force original thumbnails” box is working for me. But there’s still some strange behavior.

If I add images to a gallery, and then override the default thumbnail cropping at exactly the same size WordPress is set to create the thumbnails (225 x 225px), the crop will not save. If I create the thumbnails larger, or use the 1:1 aspect ratio at a larger size, my overrides DO save. This seems to be more of a WordPress bug than FooGallery, though, but I wanted to mention it because it just doesn’t make sense that WP will not accept a thumb override at the exact dimensions it needs the thumb to be!

Can’t seem to edit my initial post, so am using Reply here to add additional information that may be helpful.

My WP default thumbnail settings are set to 225 x 225 pixels. If I try to override a thumbnail crop at the same size – 225 x 225 – the crop appears to save, but does not actually save.

If I choose a larger size, such as 226 x 226, even 300 x 300, the crop *will* save, and at the 225 x 225 size, which doesn’t make any sense.

Thanks, @milfodd and @benjaminowens, for the information – good to read. Thanks!

Thanks, both of you – you were both replying at the same time. 🙂

Thanks again. I’ll click this closed and appreciate your help.

@stastic – thanks, the manual upgrade worked with just one tiny glitch. Previously, her event titles were displaying in entirety. Now, they’re truncated. For example, the title of one event is displaying as “Creating from…” whereas previously the entire title was visible on multiple lines. I don’t see any new settings to specify length visible…

Thanks for the fast reply, Shayne. I’ll let you know if using FTP works. Good point on caching. It’s a GoDaddy server and I don’t have a way to clear the cache.

    This issue is related to:
    https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/51042

Looks as though you now display excerpts if no excerpt was typed, but we did type a space and your change is ignoring the space unless it’s typed as code.

I would submit this on GitHub but after reading the instructions, have no idea how to. 🙂

    Hi again, @mbrsolution,

It looks as though deleting the plugin and reinstalling it fixed the issue. Perhaps it was a weird server glitch affecting that file in question when I first installed it. Thanks for your help trying to troubleshoot it.

I had looked into the PHP version the other day as well. It was initially set on PHP 7.3.16 so I tried 7.3.16 and also 7.4.4 and the problem persists with all versions, even after I cleared the cache.

However, I just installed the plugin on another one of my test sites (same server) and the issue does *not* exist there. I will do some more experiments including deleting the plugin and reinstalling, and let you know what I’m able to find out. Thanks!

I did set up the settings in the admin panel, but am not sure what type of PayPal account my customer has. Does it have to be a business account? I have her PayPal email address entered, 0 for base shipping (although I tried to leave that blank, but it keeps reverting to 0), and pretty much left all other settings blank…

Thanks for the suggestion. I just removed the shipping from the topmost book on that page and when I add that to the cart, there is no error message. What does this mean as far as a solution?

    Thanks for replying, @mbrsolution .

The hosting company provides a plugin called SiteGround Optimizer. I purged the cache several times and the error persisted. I then deactivated that plugin and the error is still there…

    Hi @phillcoxon ,

I just checked and don’t see that option, but… then I realized that the slideshow functionality is only part of FooBox Pro, correct? I’m certain I read somewhere that that was built into it, but I can’t find the site to share with you. Could have been an old outdated tutorial if the slideshow used to be part of the free version?

Sure – should have done that in my first message!
