 * I found another post having the same problem. I was able to clear up the problem
   by deleting some records from wp_postmeta.
 * delete from wp_postmeta where meta_key = ‘_yoast_wpseo_canonical’

 * I got it to re-activate eventually. I’m running WordPress on a Windows machine(
   not by my choice) which has caused a lot of headaches when updating WordPress,
   themes, and plugins. After stopping and re-starting the Application Pool in IIS,
   I was able to activate the plugin.
