 * The key is to update to the new wordpress, and once the theme is activated, when
   you are editing a post, down the bottom on the right you will see “featured image”…
   click that, upload you pic and click “use as featured image”… You do not have
   to insert the picture into the post. After this just publish/update the post 
   and it should work.
