 * For what it is worth:
 *  I had a similar problem after upgrading from 6.2.something to 6.4.3. All pages
   gave a 404, except the main page.
 * This immediately fixed the problem for me:
    - Navigate in dashboard to Settings-> Permalink settings
    - Toggle the permalink setting to a random other value (in my case ‘Plain’) 
      and save
    - Toggle the permalink setting back to the original value and save
