 * Just in case it helps someone I discovered that my problems were caused by an
   out of date plugin in my mu-plugins folder.
    Updating the plugin (more privacy
   options) allowed succesful upgrade to 4.4.

 * I had exactly the same issue and had to revert to 4.3.1.
    However before reverting
   I found out that by disabling SSL for admin in wp-config and changing the URL
   protocol to http:// then I could login. Reverting to 4.3.1 is not a fix nor is
   disabling SSL.

 * May not help but I had a similar issue after upgrading to 4.4.
    Disabling SSL
   on administration in wp-config.php let me in. I have reverted to 4.3.1 in the
   meantime.

 * Hi,
 * Has there been any update on this. I found a similar issue regarding an SSL enabled
   network/multiuser WordPress 3.3.1 installation. Disabling SSL fixed the issues.
   I also changed the ajaxurl which at least prevented the Calendar going into continuous
   load mode.
 * Thanks,
