That was far easier than I expected. There must be a database setting that controls it. This made no difference to the issue. It must be a setting in WordPress itself that has somehow been set incorrectly. I did as follows. 1. Clicked on Links and deleted all the links. They were all links to WordPress documentation etc. None that I had created. 2. Used phpMyAdmin. Looked at the table wp_links. It is (now) empty, zero rows. 3. Logged out and logged in again. The Links is still there.
