* First, thank you for your quick response.
* Michael, trying to work out where to insert the code you so kindly supplied,
made my eyes glaze over as it far exceeds my knowledge level. In fact, I wouldn’t
even know where to place it in WordPress.
At 82 ones technical skills seem to
diminish a little – or a lot! To clarify. When younger, I could fly extremely
fast aircraft, but not fix them.
* I assume that some nefarious mischief maker could enter through the black left
column, to which you refer, as it seems wide open at the moment. It might be
better, in the long run, to delete the whole thing and start all over again.
Unfortunately, I’m not even sure how to do that! Also, I would like to salvage
the themes [listed below], if possible.
* Hoping I have not totally confused both of you with my myriad problems. Below,
please find a list of the current installed [themes; my present WordPress websites all but the children’s toy one, seem to function reasonably well and all without the wide-open black column on the left. Last, I have listed the items shown in the black column.](http://KidsToysForGirlsAndBoys.com)

* Your suggestions about changing the theme paid off…to a degree!
* I found one called Pool, I think. and a plugin for Yahoo Answers. That seems
to work and it pops up as the opening page.
* One thing though.
* I would much prefer one of the other headings to be the first page people see
when they visit.
* Specifically, ‘Forex Rebellion, The Video’.
* Any way to choose which page is the default page, please.
* That ‘pool’ theme might not be the best for a Forex market blog, but I suppose
investing in the foreign exchange market could be like swimming in a pool surrounded
by a lot of sharks, if one does not know what they are doing! :o] So it will
be O.K., until I can find a better one,

* Your suggestions are probably perfect for someone who possesses even the slightest
modicum of technical skills, but that’s not me, I’m afraid.
* This is my first attempt with WordPress and it took ages for me to even get the
thing to work. Now, I’m fast running out of time and feel it might be best to
delete the whole thing and start again from fresh as I don’t know how to do half
the sensible things you suggested.
* For instance:
* Not sure what the theme is. I did install new pages and they appear in the line
at the top, but WP is only showing a blank page. Why can’t I simply ‘move’ one
of the other pages into the ‘Blog’ slot. As I said, I can’t even find an empty
Blog page on WP!
* There was a page showing at first on Blog, but at 76, I can’t remember what it
was. Blank now, except for that message.
* I wouldn’t know CSS if it bit me on the bum! Not technical enough to change code,
even if I culd find it.

Now that is something I can try, but only have a
coupler. One for something called ‘All in One SEO Pack’. One called ‘Google XML
Sitemaps’There was one called, ‘Hello Dolly’, but I deleted that.

Haven’t a clue how to do that, but it does sound complicated, does it not?
* -> Remove all unwanted code from htaccess
Now I think? I could find the HTacess
file, but wouldn’t have a clue what part of the code would be unwanted…or ‘wanted’,
for that matter.
* -> upgrade your wordpress to the latest version.
Already upgraded to the latest,

* I would love to be able to follow your instructions,but apart from disabling
all the plugins, i’m lost.

only lose my whole WordPress installation, but also the military avaition web
site?
* Gosh, who would have thought it?
* I’d be more than happy to give you all the passwords etc, so you could go in
and see what I screwed up, if it would help. Maybe, if you were able to go in
and replace the ‘1’ in raygc1.com, it would all be restored and work again?
* Shall never try to transfer after this. Easier to build another WP site on raygc.
com, don’t you think. Of course, not being able to find the first part, the ‘
Administration’ might have put me into the wrong and a critical area. Can’t really

* i tried to take your advice. Found my way to I think it was general Panel. Couldn’t
find the Administration but did find something called “General panel”. There

scratch again. Very disappointed, as I need to be up and producing as soon as

* First, may I thank you for both your patience and your knowledge.
* I admit to getting in a ‘bit of a flap’ over it and apologise to all readers.
* You were right, neither the themes, or plugins had correctly uploaded, although
I thought they had.
* They are OK now, thanks to your good advice.
* Thank you for your kind words about my site. Yes, I agree that the three column
is far too narrow, but that is the only aviation theme I could find. I really
need one with a Dambuster, or composite of Lancaster parts, but being on a pension,
i can’t afford to have one designed. Any idea if there is a good, freebie theme
site out there, or a reasonable designer, for later on? I was quite surprised
that the PayPal links copied over so well and actually work perfectly.
* My next questions will be concerning correct linking between my, yet to be constructed,
WP blogs. I was advised to erect five of them, with the same theme, but using
different keywords in each. Then to link the four longer tailed keyword blogs
with each other, sort of in a circle, so to speak, and then have those four also
point a link to the top one with the more competitive keyword, as that one can
use as many links as possible. Good idea, or not? Need it to work, for my rent
money.
* Also, how to find out how to alter and utilise the sidebars, which contain only‘
ipso facto’ type Latin, at present and I have yet to find out how to put them
to work. Perhaps that will be covered in the video you pointed me toward and
which I have yet to enjoy. Thank you also for that.

* O.K., Well I found the plugin button. It was hidden on the top, right hand, side
of the screen and i don’t see so well anymore.

* First, sorry Michael, but accidentally also put this under someone else’s post,
so I’m repeating it here.
* Hello Michael, thank you for trying to assist I do appreciate it however, it
might be better if I scrub the whole operation, deleting everything in WordPress
and start again and scratch.
* I have tried downloading the new version through FileZilla three, or four, times
now, but to no avail and must get cracking and try to bring in an income. I followed
all the instructions, deleting the files I was told to delete. I tried uploading
as both individual files, as well as folders. I tried every combination of your
instructions that I could think of, but when I log on again I am greeted with“
A new version is available! Please update now.”, every time.
* As I said, it might be easier for me to simply delete my whole WordPress operation
and simply upload a new, fresh, one through my cpanel in my host, qualityhostonline.
com. What is it called? Fantastico? Something like that.
* If I delete all my WordPress files through FileZilla, I could still run into
some very bad problems as they do not all appear to be in folders, but many are
loose and scattered among files from my other websites. That’s what it looks
like, anyway.
* Now, I notice there appears to be a new beta version of WordPress on the horizon,
but I’ll face that problem when I get to it.
* One other tiny thing. I had worked this post out and try to send the message
back to you, but it said it had been closed, or resolved and I lost all my writing,
so I just had to do it all again. That peed me off a bit, I can tell you. Doing
this first in notepad, just in case!
* Suggestions and advice from you, or others on the forum will be most appreciated

I eventually found the plugin tab, but all that is in there is
the default WordPress items:

It might be that I simply do not have the basic intelligence to master WordPress.
