 * In my report on my inability to attach links to the media library to my page
texts I forgot to specify details. I am running Windows 10, standard theme, and
   my website is [http://www.zerowasteinstitute.org](http://www.zerowasteinstitute.org).
The particular page I had a problem with is at [https://zerowasteinstitute.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=3726&action=edit](https://zerowasteinstitute.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=3726&action=edit).
This URL keeps coming up even though I want a simple URL like [https://zerowasteinstitute.org/?page_id=30](https://zerowasteinstitute.org/?page_id=30).
Is it being thought of as a post instead of a page? That was not what I thought
   I had created.

 * I just upgraded to WordPress 5.4.2. Suddenly I have no way to link from my text
to a library image. I tried a plus sign hanging nearby which says it is to start
a new block. I don’t want to use blocks but apparently I have no choice. I previously
uploaded my new image to the media library (as I have a hundred times before)
but when the link button for my text offers to go to MEDIA LIBRARY, my new image
is not shown. And I don’t know what to do if it were shown. The whole linking
feature is broken and instead of just going away after failing, it leaves crap
on my text page which comes up every time I go to that page, even if I update
or publish it. My text page now looks like a pig has walked over it, with junky
boxes and queries and texts. I have created hundreds of links before now throughout
my website but this has defeated me.

 * Further information on the missing pdf files. I uploaded a new pdf file to the
Media Library and though it seemed to upload normally, it was no more visible
   than the older pdf files.
I took note that pdf files are allowed to be placed
in the MEDIA LIBRARY according to the official description of the library, which
lists the kinds of files to expect and includes pdf files. See [http://codex.wordpress.org/Media_Library_Screen#Table_of_Media](http://codex.wordpress.org/Media_Library_Screen#Table_of_Media)
So I’m not trangressing any rule by expecting a pdf file to be linkable in the
   Media Library.
 * I’m out of business until I can solve this problem.
I can’t be the only person
with this problem. What is going on? Thank you for some help. Paul Palmer

 * I guess this comment fits into this thread. I normally park my pdf files in my
media library and link to them from my pages. It always worked fine. I have been
doing this for years. Suddenly after upgrading to WP 3.9.2 the pdf files ALL
disappeared. The titles are there with links but nothing can be viewed. The pdf
files are gone. I had no warning about this and I have no idea why it happened.

I have tried for a very long time to back up my media gallery. With all of the
hoopla about backing up the database, or exporting an XML file, the media are
always ignored. I installed a plug-in that explicitly said it would back up the
media. After using it, I discovered that it would not back up the pdf files,
only the jpg files. I asked the developer about this and he said he would fix
it but never did. However I don’t know if a backup would have helped. It is as
thought WP just doesn’t recognize the pdf files any more. My two websites are
   [http://www.greensocialthought.org](http://www.greensocialthought.org) and [http://www.zerowasteinstitute.org](http://www.zerowasteinstitute.org).
There is no error message at all. The pdf files are just not there. Greenthought

 * Thank you Cyril. I didn’t know that. I will search where you say for the problem.
However, another person found the same terrible rendition. Still, you have given
me a place to look for a problem.

 * I am not sure what this thread is about but tangentially it concerns the media
gallery which is my lament also.
 * I recently updated to WordPress 3.8. I believe that as soon as I did that, my
pdf files in my media gallery began to look terrible. The image rendering randomly
shows some letters as light, some as heavy, some as hard to read. The overall
look is an unreadable mess. It looks as though fonts are being changed, even
though the original pdf file is a pure image without fonts. The original pdf
files on my computer render perfectly using Adobe Reader. My wordpress site is
   [http://www.greensocialthought.org](http://www.greensocialthought.org).

 * I have the same thing. The theme options says to set the image to 96 x 392 so
I did but it stretches the image sideways to maybe four times as long. Is there
some way to insist on using a header image as uploaded without changing it? And
I have no idea what retina means. Or where I find a slider.

 * Never mind, I found a setting called HEADER under
    APPEARANCE. As usual, there
was no way to find this other than by accident. I searched the support under
header and googled WordPress Header and got no help at all. This is not the way
to set up a generally useful template like WordPress but it seems nothing changes
to make basic design settings easier to find or understand. I searched on common
terms like blogroll and widget but just found details of how to use them, never
any human-to-human narrative paragraph explaining them the way your teacher would.
