 * The author doesn’t offer an email address at his website. However, these forum
postings are reproduced on his own website – so, if he reads them, hopefully
he’ll find the time to act.

 * Thanks Mike – I’ve also had this problem and this solution worked.
    It’s nearly
a year since you posted this – it would be great if the code could be fixed as
I only downloaded the plugin today. I will direct the plugin author to this post.

 * This is now resolved. If you delete the folder “/feed” (or simply rename it to“/
_feed” or something), then your feeds will become visible again.
 * I must confess that I’m not sure how or why this works, but I can say that it
   does.

 * Upgrading to WP2.0 appears to have fixed this problem.

 * I should add that Akismet is working and blocking gazillions of spam.
    In addition,
the problem occured after upgrading to 1.12 from 1.0. Prior to that it had functioned
   normally.

 * I should have added a further question: should I worry about the transmit_error?
Is it causing the problem with htaccess not being compiled? Clearly the failure
of htaccess is the real problem here.
 * Do I need more tea and toast?
 * OK, I can answer that last one myself.
 * I recently upgraded from 1.2.2 to 1.5 and consider myself a WP enthusiast. But
I’ve been struggling with this for a few days now, and have intensively searched
   the Codex and forums. TIA.

 * hmm. That second error goes outside the column width of the forum – here it is,
broken over several lines for readability:
    `[Fri Apr 8 11:52:37 2005] [alert][
   client 81.130.49.105] /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/ grayblog.co.uk/httpdocs/.htaccess:
RewriteRule: cannot compile regular expression '^?p=category/(.+)/feed/(feed|
   rdf|rss|rss2|atom)/?$'\n

 * I’ve noticed that when WP generates .htaccess, my server error logs show the
   following error:
    `[Fri Apr 8 11:48:45 2005] [error] mod_gzip: TRANSMIT_ERROR:
   32 `
 * Then, if I try to access my blog or the admin pages, I get a server 500 error
and the following error message in the error logs:
    `[Fri Apr 8 11:52:37 2005][
   alert] [client 81.130.49.105] /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/grayblog.co.uk/httpdocs/.
htaccess: RewriteRule: cannot compile regular expression '^?p=category/(.+)/feed/(
   feed|rdf|rss|rss2|atom)/?$'\n `
 * For now, I’ve reverted to blank .htaccess and CHMODed 664 to prevent WP from
overwriting it and causing this error. However, I’d like to fix this and allow
WP to write the .htaccess file so I can have pretty (and functioning) permalinks.

So, the questions are: 1. why is the TRANSMIT_ERROR being generated? (and what
does it mean? – I’m no newbie, but I’m out of my depth now) 2. how do I fix it?

 * I’ve got the same problem, but have tried this solution without success – all
that happens is that the same error is repeated. Suggestions?

 * Should have added that, at the moment, my .htaccess file is not being regenerated.
   I suspect a mod_rewrite issue.

 * I have exactly the same problem. grendelquinn – is your .htaccess file being
regenerated by WP when you modify the permalink structure?

 * hi jimhobbs.
 * I can’t help but just wanted to say that you’re not alone. I’m on 34sp.com and
   seem to have similar problems.
 * Incidentally, which version of WP are you using. I have been using WP1.5 but
found that another (unrelated) problem I had was solved by using elements of
a more recent nightly. Have you tried using the latest nightly? I know from reading
these forums and my own experience that 1.5 is not without problems and that
there is talk of a revision to deal with some issues.
