    Thank you for
   your message. Sorry, I forgot to update my post. The problem is now solved.
 * Turns out the problem was unexpected, and had nothing to do with WordPress. Our
   hosting provider’s servers had a limit as to the number/volume of files that 
   could be transferred in a single folder. Our client had uplaoded a lot of images,
   which exceeded that volume. When they were uploading on our test server everything
   was fine; but after the migration, it translated in weird missinge images, with
   no clear pattern/clue as to why some images were impacted and not others.
 * Marking the issue as resolved.
