 * Well, I deactivated the upgrade plug-in after hitting my forehead and saying “
   duh” and that solved the problem. I am now using 3.01.

 * It’s the upgrade log. It says “Below is the log for the upgradation” and then
   the first thing listed is
 * Task Name: files
    Task Description: Backs up all the current files from the wordpress
   installation Task Status: Complete Task Start Date: 2010-08-12 16:32:45 Task
   End Date: 2010-08-12 16:32:45 Task Log:
 * Task Name: backupdbopt
    Task Description: Shows you the options to backup your
   database Task Status: Complete Task Start Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:06 Task End
   Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:06 Task Log:
 * And so on and the only one that has a “failed” is the one I posted above. I think
   my upgrade program is working from upgrade plug-in program. Not sure, but this
   is what it says above the log:
 *  ** TASK OUTPUT
    Some problems did not allow us to upgrade your blog. This most
   likely ocurred due to file permission issues, you can find a workaround for the
   issue by visiting this forum post on WPAU forums.
 * If that does not solve your problem please post on the forum and I will definitely
   take a look at the issue.

 * Here’s the update error I have
 * **Task Name: getlatestfiles
    Task Description: Downloads / Uploads the latest
   files for wordpress Task Status: Failed Task Start Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:44
   Task End Date: 2010-08-12 16:33:44 Task Log: Starting to download the file from
   Could not write to local file
 * Up until this upgrade all previous upgrades worked on my site.
 * Let me edit this to add that everything else said “Task Status: Complete”, i.
   e. putting it in maintenance mode worked, deactivating plug-ins, reactivating
   them, the whole thing seemed to work but for that one “task status: failed” that
   I pasted above. It’s like the upgrade worked but doesn’t see it as having worked,
   if you see what I mean.

 * > I would venture a guess that very few people have either WP or Firefox setup
   > identically – which makes the question meaningless. There are simply too many
   > variables there to assume if I have the latest versions of both WP and FF the
   > issue should be able to be duplicated. That’s all I’m saying.
 * Actually, there are variables that can be assessed. Firefox’s spell check is
   working right now as I write this post. Firefox’s spell check worked with Word
   Press prior to upgrading to the newest version. That, in turn, makes the updated
   version of Word Press a likely candidate.
 * However, I did not say that was the problem, you’ll note I _asked_ if there was
   a problem with WP overriding Firefox’s spell check. When you stated that it worked
   for you, I had to ask if you had the latest versions of both products because
   that information also becomes a variable.
 * Now, finding out that you have the latest version of both products and hopefully
   Windows XP, which adds another variable, then clearly the problem is not being
   created by Word Press’ latest version, or at least not entirely. For example,
   I just typed “arcle snerfis of the floogie bogzem” into Word Press and Firefox
   didn’t underline any of those made-up words, but Firefox underlined those words
   in this post. And here’s one last interesting twist. When I switch to HTML view,
   the Firefox spell check works perfectly 😉

 * I took a look, your pictures are loaded and it looks good. I didn’t see an error
   message on the page. Does it happen when you’re editing? If it’s not appearing
   anymore when you’re editing, then I’d say the error was merely due to the wrong
   default for the uploads. I actually searched that error message and only found
   one other person it happened to, someone on a German WordPress site. The exact
   same file and error message. What he did, I don’t know since I can’t read German.
   😀 I’m glad it’s working for you now, but let me know if the message is still
   popping up when you’re trying to blog.

 * Hey Jock,
 * Could you give me a few more details like whether you or your host provider installed
   WordPress? I don’t know who you buy your site space from, but that host is who
   you should contact for tech help first, because it could be something wrong on
   their end. If they say nothing is wrong on their end, then it could be permissions
   aren’t set properly, or what.
 * You seem to be having a problem similar to mart29 in another post where he has
   encountered an internal server error. So try your host’s tech support first.

 * OK, mart, it seems as if you’re having some type of internal server error. I
   typed [http://kayeefong.com/wp-content/uploads](http://kayeefong.com/wp-content/uploads)
   and got the message: **The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration
   and was unable to complete your request.**
 * So something is amiss. It could mean a lot of things, but first contact tech
   support at your host provider. If, for example, you bought your site from godaddy.
   com, contact them and give them that internal error message.
 * I first put [http://kayeefong.com](http://kayeefong.com), which functions right,
   then I added /wp-content, which returned a blank page as it should (it’s a blank
   index page that protects your files from being seen), but as soon as I added /
   uploads, that’s when I got the internal server error message.
 * Check tech support at whoever you bought you site space from and maybe it’s an
   error on their part causing your problems.

 * mart29,
 * Could you give me the direct URL to one of your pictures? For example it would
   be something like [http://kayeefong.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/image12243.jpg](http://kayeefong.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/image12243.jpg)
 * It would help if I knew if you’re a newbie to building a website, because I don’t
   want to come across as flip. An URL is basically nothing more than an address.
   If someone is from the USA, that’s their country, if they’re from Illinois, that’s
   their state, Chicago is their city and 12242 Maple Street is where their house
   is. In other words it would be like [http://usa.com/illinois/chicago/maplestreet/12242.house](http://usa.com/illinois/chicago/maplestreet/12242.house)
   😀
 * In the same vein, the Internet is the same way. kayeefong.com is your country,
   then the “/” slash mark leads to where your pictures are in your country. Again,
   I’m not being flip or trying to be condescending, I was a newbie once that helped
   me understand.

 * mart29,
 * Do you have a FTP program like WS_FTP or Filezilla? I also need to know if you
   have an image editing program where you can open those TIFF files and convert
   them to JPG files.

 * If you are trying to edit in Firefox, switch to Internet Explorer. I know that
   sounds crazy, but that’s what worked for me. My WP is on a Windows site and so
   maybe it only plays nice with the Windows browser.

 * Well, you can have them install whatever version they have, then download the
   plugin “wordpress automatic upgrade” it’s really awesome. You upload it, like
   other plug-ins, to your wp-content/plug-ins folder and then it will appear on
   your plug-in menu. Just activate it and it works a treat. It takes you step by
   step through the upgrade, makes copies of your blog and data from your old version.
   You don’t have to go to the WP site and download and then upload a bunch of files,
   the plug-in does all of that for you and fast. Give it a go, especially if it’s
   a brand new install.

 * Stuperb, you might want to go to godaddy.com and log-in with your customer# or
   login name (that info is probably in your e-mail from them) so you can use their
   site builder program in control panel. I have a web site that is a Windows site
   and I just went into control panel and the site installed WordPress for me. I
   don’t know if godaddy offers WordPress, but it does have a blog program that
   they have a demo of on their page.
 * Now one thing with my Windows site WordPress is that the URL path is almost like
   a subdomain URL. For example instead of say [http://stuperb.com/wordpress](http://stuperb.com/wordpress),
   it would be like [http://stuperb.godaddy.com/wordpress](http://stuperb.godaddy.com/wordpress).
   So you might ask godaddy tech support on how to install WordPress because there
   might be a different URL path you need.

 * Make sure with the IE browser that you go to tools/internet options/ click the
   privacy tab, then click “sites” type in the URL of your site or blog, click “
   allow” click “ok” then you might have to reboot and reopen IE. Try that.
