 * My hand was forced. Even though our self-hosted WordPress was reported as version
   3.8.1 by GoDaddy, parts of it had been upgraded to version 4.1.1 without our
   consent. How else could `wp_json_encode()` show up in `misc.php`? This function
   was’nt even introduced until version 4.1.
 * Please just go ahead and bite the bullet, do the upgade, and mark this as **_resolved_**,
   even though we will likely never find out what caused the problem.

 * Oh! [@laliz](https://wordpress.org/support/users/laliz/), I did do a search on
   how to export a theme, but I still don’t know what that entails. Can you point
   me to a theme that does have an export option?

 * Thank you [@laliz](https://wordpress.org/support/users/laliz/) for your input,
   but it was only by upgrading that this could be fixed.
 * Even though GoDaddy showed WordPress version 3.8.1, there were various files
   on our self-hosted site that had been upgraded to the 4.1.1 version… I only noticed
   the `license.txt` and `misc.php`. How else could `wp_json_encode()` show up in
   a 3.8.1 install?
 * Still, I am hesitant to mark this as _**resolved**_ since there was no resolution,
   only a fix. A proper resolution would identify why these files were updated without
   our consent.

 * It would be a temporary workaround since I cannot login at all. I want to be
   able to look at current settings and fine-tunings in case I have to do a restore
   while upgrading.
 * Will this work?

 * MarketRaisen2, could you please identify the solution that worked for you?
 * Thanks.
