The answer was to have the On Image set to ‘Product Get Image’ but the Out of Image not set to ‘Product Get Image’. I’m using Astra, so the archive pages are controlled by the customiser and the badges work fine there, but this is a product block I have added to an ordinary page using the block editor. I can only assume that that is the difference, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to fix it. It is definitely the product image block that is part of the product template block and they are appearing on the other archive pages. Hooray! * Yes, I had to change from Dracula Dark Mode plugin because it was discontinued.
