 * I did have that setting turned on and when I unset it the site worked OK so I
   have re-activated that plugin with the defer_JS switch turned off

 * I have tried reinstalling jetpack a few times following the troubleshooting guides
   provided and checked xmlrpc.php is working and in the right directory which was
   OK
 * The debug log showed the following error code 409 (conflict)

 * I am at a complete loss as t how to action this error xode though
 * I should add my site is running on a host provider (IPage) which obviously limits
   the changes I can make myself

 * I spoke Ipage yet again just now and they confirm that this probem with PHP7.4
   has still not been fixed (even though I logged it with them 6 weeks ago!!)
 * I was shown an action on their Engineering Plan showing the fix as a taxk to 
   be done but despite asking they would not provide a planned date
 * The entry said enable ctype in PHP7.4.10 – I don’t know what sub-version of 7.4
   they are on at the moment but I’m guessing we will have to wait a bit longer 
   still
 * I will update if I find out anthing else or I see a fix

 * I had this with ipage a couple of weeks ago and logged it on here
 * I have been checking every day or two by going onto their PHP maintenance facility
   and setting it to 7.4 and as of today it still isn’t working so need to set it
   back to 7.3 for Jetpack to work
 * The Help Desk wasn’t very helpful at ipage either. They promised to scehedule
   it for an update but wouldn’t commit to a date

 * I have checked with my Hosting site and they confirmed that they had not implemented
   the ctype extension in PHP7.4
 * So this is the cause of the problem but they would not give me a fix date as 
   it (presumably ?) has to go through their change control system so I will stay
   on PHP7.3 for the time being
 * I don’t think it should take too long to resolve though so I will have another
   go in the next few days or sooner if they email me

 * All the problems I described above on my web site seem to have cleared up today
   of there own accord (and my support ticket with Ipage is still showing as “open”)
 * However, I have now noticed a very sharp decrease in the page load and refresh
   speed also just starting today. The initial load is now taking several seconds
   where before it was virtually instant and in addition many of the content blocks
   and jpg images are being displayed blank even after the page is showing as loaded
   on the browser. They then load OK if I do a browser refresh
 * I’m beginning to think this is a hosting issue and some of the server/database
   parameters are being “tweaked”

 * I have just started getting exactly the same issue as this:
 * (Intermittent) Error establishing database connection
    Sometimes the current 
   page is displayed and sometimes one from about 3 months ago Lots of extra login
   screen in WordPress admin sessions WSOD (occasionally) Session expired screens
   in WP wdmin when trying to do updates
 * I have run a Repair on the WP database and restored back from an old WP data 
   backup but the problem has not gone away
 * I have raised a ticket with my Hosting Company (Ipage) but it had not yet been
   actioned
 * I believe it started to go wrong overnight 8th-9th November this week
 * I will update on here if I get more news but if anyone else has any suggestions……..
