 * freshpromo, I spent quite a bit of time on this and resolved it by putting a 
   space after the dollar signs and using only single quotes. I’m assuming it was
   trying to interpret the dollar signs as variable references or something, so 
   putting a space afterwards prevented that from happening. If this workaround 
   is acceptable to you, then I’d recommend that. It has absolutely nothing to do
   with the mail server.
