  • Moshu–is there a fix that would eliminate the redundancy of /category/(category)? It seems odd to have “category” in the URL. I haven’t seen this behavior on other blogs, and I don’t recall it being the case prior to upgrading to 2.3. Any advice besides semantics substitution? Thanks-

    p.s. I put the word “category” back into the rewrite file so my content would be there if anyone was viewing. But the hack did not work for me. Unless I need to remove it in multiple instances. Please advise… Thanks

    OK, I did that and I modified my wp-includes/rewrite file as suggested in this thread:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/108875?replies=4

    I removed the word “categories” from this line:

    if (empty($this->category_base))
    			$this->category_structure = $this->front . '/';

    I tried it with and without the backslash. Bothways now I have no category page. Try clicking on my link above. There will be nothing there. Can you view the section of code below and/or suggest an alternative?

    `function get_category_permastruct() {
    if (isset($this->category_structure)) {
    return $this->category_structure;
    }

    if (empty($this->permalink_structure)) {
    $this->category_structure = ”;
    return false;
    }

    if (empty($this->category_base))
    $this->category_structure = $this->front . ‘/’;
    else
    $this->category_structure = $this->category_base . ‘/’;

    $this->category_structure .= ‘%category%’;

    return $this->category_structure;`

    I got some private help on this, but I’m posting the solution in case anybody else runs into it.

    In the AdSense Deluxe control panel, I had disabled the display of the default AdSense block <!–adsense–> which needs to be enabled even to use the <?php adsense_deluxe_ads() ?> template tag.

    Ads are working. Case closed. Thanks!

    Ah thanks, an extra pair of eyes is always helpful. It’s not the theme-designer. I must have stripped it when I removed the “feed” as per my initial post. Thanks for your patience in troubleshooting this. I do appreciate it and will close this thread.

    I don’t really want to argue until the end of time. I just removed what I thought were the errant ” after the link, but I now get this URL with my RSS link:

    http://www.eastbayinsomniac.com/feed/%3Cimg

    Here, again, is the code:

    <a href=<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?><img src="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_directory'); ?>/images/<?php echo get_option('mandigo_scheme'); ?>/rss_s.gif" alt="" /> <?php _e('Entries (RSS)','mandigo'); ?></a>
    		<?php _e('and','mandigo'); ?> <a href=<?php bloginfo('comments_rss2_url'); ?><img src="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_directory'); ?>/images/<?php echo get_option('mandigo_scheme'); ?>/rss_s.gif" alt="" /> <?php _e('Comments (RSS)','mandigo'); ?></a>

    Perhaps instead of telling me to get ride of “it” you could say what in the code to get rid of? I can see that I have a code error as it is somehow incorporating img into the feed link.

    P.S. My feed is http://www.eastbayinsomniac.com/feed right?

    Thanks.

    Moshu-

    I don’t know how those extra quotes got there. I’m posting the code again and tagging it as code. This is the feed code in my footer, but it’s yielding the problem above. For instance, why does the feed return a url with %22 at the end?

    <a href=<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>"><img src="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_directory'); ?>/images/<?php echo get_option('mandigo_scheme'); ?>/rss_s.gif" alt="" /> <?php _e('Entries (RSS)','mandigo'); ?></a>
    		<?php _e('and','mandigo'); ?> <a href=<?php bloginfo('comments_rss2_url'); ?>"><img src="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_directory'); ?>/images/<?php echo get_option('mandigo_scheme'); ?>/rss_s.gif" alt="" /> <?php _e('Comments (RSS)','mandigo'); ?></a>

    Hi Jeremy-

    I tried adding that to all of these:

    I added (to single):
    <div class=”entry”>
    <?php the_content(‘<p class=”serif”>’. __(‘Read the rest of this entry’,’mandigo’) .’ »</p>’); ?>

    <?php adsense_deluxe_ads(); ?>

    I added (to archives):
    <div class=”entry”>
    <?php the_content() ?>
    <?php adsense_deluxe_ads(); ?></div>

    I added (to index):
    <div class=”entry”>
    <?php the_content(__(‘Read the rest of this entry’,’mandigo’) .’ »’); ?> <?php adsense_deluxe_ads(); ?></div>

    I cleared the cache and everything, but I don’t see any ads on either single, archives or index. (The ad block in the footer is not part of this widget.)

    Is there a problem with my actual code for the Ad Name? The instructions show:
    <?php adsense_deluxe_ads(‘Ad_Name’); ?>
    But it says “Calling that PHP function without a parameter will return the default ad unit.”

    Here’s a link to a post where ads SHOULD be showing:
    http://www.eastbayinsomniac.com/hungry/albany-bowl-thai-cafe

    Here’s a link to a category where ads SHOULD be showing:
    http://www.eastbayinsomniac.com/category/bored/billiards-cards

    (On that note–is there a way to suppress “category” from the permalink to a category archive? In this instance, “bored” is the category.)

    Thanks-
    EBI

    Forum: Plugins
    In reply to: Adsense-Deluxe help

    This happened to me. I was able to talk to the plugin creator on IM. He said to just move the php file up a directory. (It unpacks into a subdir). I moved it into /plugins and reactivated and I don’t get that error anymore.

    Yes! Thanks, I should have posted this before I deleted a bunch of tags. That works. I’ll post it here just in case anyone ends up at this thread. But just out of curiosity, what is going on with this? How come WP doesn’t “save” my changes to the case of the tags within my post?

    Jeremy-

    Got tired of waiting for an email response from my host; I phoned Doteasy and they did just as you suggested–increased my memory. Upon refreshing, I was instantly able to complete the upgrade and things are fine again. Thank you for your attention to this! Onward…

    I wasn’t able to add that to the file. I just emailed my host. Once the php memory limit is increased, will I be able to access my admin page and perform the DB upgrade?

    I’ll post back here hopefully tomorrow as soon as I hear back. Thanks for your assistance tonight.

    Jeremy, Handy–

    What is this business about the link FROM Insider Pages? That is a link I posted 2 years before I even had this blog. I just logged into Insider Pages and I can edit the review, but not remove the link.

    But why would that suddenly cause an error after upgrading anyway? I’d like to understand what that error means about the “referer.”

    I should have plenty memory enough to support the few pages and posts I currently have on my blog.

    My host site configuration statistics say:
    Disk Used/Allocated 25.2 MB / 1100.0 MB

    Hi Jeremy-

    I found this in my error log. What does this business about “referer” in the index in the mandingo/theme mean? I didn’t put a link to Insider Pages? How can I edit this or fix this without being able to get into myh admin panel?

    Thank you for looking!

    Whooami–I just did what you suggested. Two things:

    1. All plugins except WeatherIcon were deleted. WeatherIcon contains only empty folders now (they all have read/write/execute privileges). But the plugins folder wouldn’t delete, so I renamed it plugins_old.

    2. The plugins/widgets are off the page, but the error remains.

    Any ideas/advice/translation of what the error means?

    Thanks.
